“I don’t fail at anything, Mr. Wolfe. I’m very good at marketing any product. Five percent will be easy to obtain.” Right. I had no clue what I was talking about since I hadn’t delved into any aspect of their finances or their marketing strategy. I was setting myself up for failure.
“I love your confidence. I do hope you’re right, Ms. Porter. In saying that, there are rules that must be followed. I refuse to accept anything less. This is the way it’s going if you plan on working with me.” When I didn’t say anything at first, he smirked. “Take it or leave it, Aspen, but do let me know your decision as I am a busy man. I hope that’s something you can understand.”
What a prick.
I stole a quick glance at the stupid purple ink I’d used, trying to keep from saying something I would regret later. “Yes, I understand completely.” My answer was through clenched teeth. I wasn’t certain I could stand this man for a week, let alone a year.
“Good.” He tossed the papers as if he had one on me. Then he rubbed his jaw nice and slowly, forcing me to wait as he continued his debate. I couldn’t seem to take my eyes off his sculpted features or the way his shirt seemed to mold against his massive chest muscles. I allowed my imagination to get the best of me, envisioning him without clothes. Then I forced myself to turn away, disgusted at my lurid thoughts.
“Do you agree to the terms of the contract?” he asked after a few seconds.
As I thought about my decision, I held my tongue and pushed down my temper. The money and the opportunity were too good to pass up. Weren’t they? I could do so many things after the position ran out, especially if I managed to increase profits. The sky would be the limit. “Yes. Fine.”
“Fine. Interesting word choice; however, I’ll accept that. Now, to the issue at hand. You’ve broken several rules, including accosting me in my office. I can’t allow that to go unpunished.”
The man wasn’t kidding. I took a deep breath, finding it almost impossible to control my need for telling him what he could do with his company and his contract.
Don’t do it. This is a windfall.
I’d argue with my inner voice later as to the definition of a windfall.
“Fine. Do what you need to do.”
He smiled, his eyes twinkling all over again. “Excellent. Maybe you and I can get along at some point. Remove your jeans and panties.”
If he’d told me to jump out the window, I wouldn’t have been any more shocked. “What did you say?” I was lightheaded, unable to think clearly. This had to be some kind of crazy dream. No, it was an absolute nightmare.
“I think I spoke very clearly. Remove your jeans and panties and lie across my desk.” He backed away from the edge, giving me a stern look.
“I will do no such thing.”
“Then I will have my secretary arrange a flight home this afternoon.”
The bastard wasn’t joking. “What the hell are you going to do?”
“Ms. Porter. You have a nasty attitude, no understanding of authority, and a caustic mouth. In my mind, the only way to handle all three is by giving you a hard spanking.”
Now I knew the man was plumb nuts. “You aren’t serious.”
“Very serious. I think that will go a long way in teaching you a lesson in respect. The choice is up to you. I suggest you choose wisely.”
I was so befuddled I didn’t know what to say or do. I was also entirely too turned on by the man, although I would never allow such a freaking monster to touch me. A spanking? I’d never been spanked in my life. Not for discipline. And certainly not for pleasure. I was suddenly sick to my stomach, every muscle in my body aching. However, I had one of the strongest resolves of anyone I knew. “I plan on increasing your financial wealth by forty percent, Mr. Wolfe. When I do, I expect nothing less than five hundred thousand dollars.”
Once again, he seemed amused, but a light flickered in his eyes that I’d never seen before. There was also something else.
Desire.
The kind of hot-blooded, filthy desire that was instantly overwhelming.
He even dragged his tongue across his lips before nodding. “You’re on, Ms. Porter. I take it that you’ve agreed to your discipline.”
“Yes,” I said through clenched teeth.
He simply pointed to his desk.
I stole a quick glance toward the door, forced to take several shallow breaths. I’d never felt so embarrassed in my entire life. Never. This was outrageous. This was horrible.
This was exciting.
