I should say yes – she’s great. Surprisingly, my mom might have actually introduced me to someone likable, someone I could possibly really like, even. She’s a beautiful doctor that volunteers her time for a local clinic when she’s not at the hospital. She has a sister and three brothers. She keeps up with current events, is obviously very intelligent, and she’s had me laughing during a much longer coffee date than I’d intended. She has a very nice smile, and as she takes my hand and pulls me in just a little, I feel her soft skin and think that this has potential.

“I have plans this weekend, but maybe next,” I say instead.

“You can just say no,” she says.

“It’s not a no,” I reply. “I really do have plans this weekend.”

“Okay. Then, next weekend. I’ll call you on Monday, maybe, and we can set something up.” She leans in and kisses my cheek.

She smells really good. I close my eyes to breathe her in but open them before she has a chance to notice as she pulls away.

“I’ll talk to you then,” I say.

On my drive back to the office, I think about my date. She’s pretty amazing. I like the idea of going on a date with someone I actually like. Then, I think of her, and I sigh, climbing out of my car. I did it again – I put her ahead of something that might actually be real.

“So, I have your next meeting out in the hall. He’s early. Should I make him wait, or are you ready?” my assistant asks.

“It’s fine,” I say.

It’s better that I have less time to think about my personal life right now. I have meeting after meeting until it’s well after six. I only had coffee for lunch, so I ask my assistant to order me something for dinner. She does, and I eat at my desk. By the time I’m finished, it’s after eight, and I’m more than ready to head home. I get there by nine and run a bath for myself. I add some soothing bubbles and sink into it. I grab a quick snack after and go to bed. Pulling out my laptop, I go to the website to check if there are any messages. There’s one, and I worry they’re going to tell me that she can’t make it to the event. Instead, they tell me that they’re offering VIP-members or members seeking that status a chance to have special accommodations this weekend.

I read the email again before clicking on the link to check out the location. Smiling at what they were offering, I click on the RSVP link and then email them separately, requesting a certain someone join me in my room if possible. Then, I close the laptop and smile as I fall asleep.

“Welcome,” the woman in the gravel parking lot says.

“Thank you,” I reply, handing my keys to the well-dressed man next to her.

“You’re in cabin six,” she says. “The main party is in cabin one, but you’re not required to join that unless you’re interested. We’ve set up your cabin with a wood-burning fire, champagne, and wine, as well as some food options. More can be found in the main cabin if you’d like. We’ll be by at three-forty-five, like always.”

“Thank you,” I repeat.

“Cabin six is just over there,” she motions with an open hand. “You can take the golf cart if you’d like.”

It’s only about fifty yards away.

“I think I can walk,” I say.

“Very well.”

I leave them there and walk to my cabin. Tonight’s location is a cabin resort on a lake. It’s likely most beautiful at sunrise and sunset, but the lake is lit up around the shore, so I can see at least some of the beauty just fine at eleven at night. I completely forgot to ask if my one actual request had been met. If it hasn’t, I’ll have to head to the main cabin, but I’m already almost here, so I decide to check first. There are two steps leading to the door of the beautiful log cabin. The lights are on inside, and I can see some flickering, likely from the fire. Before I can open the door, it’s opened for me, and there she is.

“You’re here,” I say.

“Where else would I be?” she asks.

She’s wearing a t-shirt and a pair of worn jeans, and she looks perfect. I walk into her arms, and she closes the door behind me. She pulls me in for a hug. I hug her back and kiss her neck.

“So, this is pretty nice, huh?” she asks, running her hands up and down my back. “We get this all to ourselves, and no one will interrupt.”

“Just us?” I say, looking into her eyes.
