His thrusts got harder and harder until he finally climaxed. He collapsed onto the bed beside her, and he took a few deep breaths. She turned towards him and ran her fingers through his hair again. That was his cue to get up. He shifted his body and planted his feet on the floor as he sat up.

He didn’t doubt that she thought she had given him the best sex ever, when in reality it was just okay.

“Would you like to take a shower before you leave?” Gabbriello asked dismissively.

“Only if you join me,” she said seductively as she sat up.

After the mediocre sex?

Gabbriello just wanted her out of the room.

“We could fuck in the shower,” she said, interrupting his thoughts.

“I don’t shower with anyone,” he responded.

“Not even with me?” the woman pouts her lower lip and stares at him with sad eyes.

Without hesitation, he responded sternly. “No one.”

It was true. Gabbriello never showered with anyone. To him, showering meant getting clean and washing off all the dirtiness from that day, literally and figuratively, including the smell of random women he f. Taking a shower was his private time where he found peace and solitude in his crazy, unpredictable life and he was definitely not going to share that experience with some random woman he just met. True be told, he hadn’t met anyone worthy enough to share that experience with him.

Gabbriello leaned over and retrieved a tissue from the tissue box on the nightstand and removed the condom.

“Okay.” She whispered as she grabbed her panties and pulled them over her hips. Gabbriello remained quiet as she pulled her dress over her body and connected the snap around her neck.

He stood, fully exposing his body. Even flaccid, his cock was large. The woman glanced at his body before retrieving her purse and walking to the door. She reached into her purse and pulled out a business card. “If you ever feel like hooking up again, call me.”

Gabbriello smiled as he took the card. “Enjoy the rest of your evening,” he said as she walked out the door.

CHAPTER 5

Gabbriello closed the door behind her and threw her card in the wastebasket before walking into the shower. As the hot water coated his body, he closed his eyes and allowed his head to fall back, while breathing in the fresh steam. Gabbriello listened to the steady echo of water hitting the base of the shower as he focused on the warmth of the sprays coating his body.

Gabbriello thought about all the random women he had slept with. None of them compared to his first love. He had been on a few dates here and there in high school, but his first experience with true love occurred during his senior year of high school. Miranda Philips was tall and beautiful. She was captain of the cheerleading team, got accepted into college on a track scholarship, and she spent her weekends volunteering at the local soup kitchen.

Gabbriello remembered how different his life was from hers and his other classmates. He wasn’t an average high school kid; he was born into the Deluca family. That name came with more responsibility than the average kid had to deal with. He had to learn the family business young and was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps.

Gabbriello was one of the smartest people in their class but chose not to get too wrapped up in academics because college wasn’t in the cards for him. He earned above-average grades without trying and could have easily excelled in the advanced classes. Academics were not his priority, and neither were sports. Even for a high school student, he was strong and quick. Instead of joining the football or basketball team, he focused on boxing and mixed martial arts at the local gym.

Gabbriello couldn’t afford to play for fun. He needed to learn how to defend himself because he knew, being the son of a made man, they would challenge him at every turn. His father had his bodyguards train him on how to handle himself and weapons. He wanted extra training, so he joined a gym and took classes in kickboxing and martial arts.

Gabbriello stood in the shadows in high school because he didn’t want to bring any extra attention to his family. He dressed nicer than the average student, charmed all the girls, even the teachers, and could talk his way out of any situation. All of which would help him in his quest to take over the family business. Even at a young age, he knew his family’s name was known for their association with the criminal world. Gabbriello succeeded because he worked hard, never took no for an answer, and crushed anyone who impeded his family’s business.

He smiled when he remembered how he got paired with Miranda to complete their final biology project together. He and Miranda quickly became friends, began dating and stayed together when she went off to college. Gabbriello kept his relationship a secret and she wasn’t aware of the type of business his family was in. He tried to keep it from her, but one day, a former employee turned on the Deluca family. Gabbriello, his brother Mariano and his father were arrested on drug and money laundering charges. The man never lived to tell his story in court and they dropped the charges against them, but Miranda was so freaked out by the entire spectacle that she broke it off with him and blocked his number.

When he couldn’t find her, he had a private investigator. He found out that she had moved on with her life and transferred to another college. He decided maybe she wasn’t the woman for him if she gave up so easily on their relationship.

More than a year had passed and, out of the blue, Miranda called him and said she wanted to talk. She told him she never stopped thinking about him and she still loved him. Gabbriello was so happy to have her back in his life, it never dawned on him to ask why she changed her mind and gave their relationship another chance.

One night before going to dinner, he got a frantic call from Miranda. She said she didn’t want to meet him at the restaurant, that he needed to meet her at the park on the other side of town. He contacted his father and told him about the conversation.

His father feared it was a trap and told Gabbriello to take Rinaldo and two bodyguards with him. His father said he had a bad feeling about it. When Gabbriello got out of the car, he noticed Miranda in a distance on her phone. She disconnected the call and typed what he thought was a text. As he walked towards her, his phone buzzed. It was a text from Miranda.

Don’t come near me. It’s a trap. He wants to kill you.

He looked at her and moved quickly towards her, with Rinaldo and his bodyguards in tow. Before he could reach her, a man ran up to her and shot her several times before running towards a waiting car. His bodyguards took off after the shooter, but he and Rinaldo ran towards Miranda. One bullet went right between her eyes, and she died instantly. Gabbriello knelt and scooped her up in his arms. Rage filled his heart as the tears, he couldn’t control, ran down his face. He noticed an envelope in her hand that was now stained with blood. He took the envelope and put it in his pocket as he heard the police sirens in the background.

“Let’s go Gabe, we have to get out of here.” Rinaldo paused. “She’s gone, man,” Rinaldo said as he yanked at his arm.
