“Nicholas will take you home to change your clothes.”

“I want to stay.”

“I wasn’t asking,” Roberto said in a stern voice. “Go home, change your clothes and Nicholas with bring you back.”

Gabbriello nodded as he walked out the door with Nicholas Romano, his father’s right-hand man and best friend. They got into a car that was in the front of the hospital.

“Where’s your gun?” Nicholas asked as they drove away from the hospital

Gabbriello pulled his gun out of his waist, and he gave it to Nicholas.

“Your father wants me to take care of this, in the event the police come asking questions. That's why he needed you to change your clothes and to clear your mind, so you get your story straight.” Nicholas paused as he looked at Gabbriello through the rearview mirror. “What the fuck happened?” Nicholas asked.

“We were leaving Bernie's Restaurant and got into an argument with some Russians that were walking down the street. One said he recognized me, and Carmine got in one of their faces. I squashed the situation, and we walked to the car.” Gabbriello looked out the window as he continued. “The next thing I know, they're driving by us slowly when I see a gun. They fired into the car, and I immediately jumped out and fired back. It wasn't until I was walking back to the car that I noticed all the blood or my clothes and then I looked in the car and saw that Carmine had a hole in his neck. We did what we needed to do to get him to the hospital.”

Nicholas nodded as they pulled in front of their house.

They both got out of the car and walked into the house. Nicholas gripped Gabbriello by the shoulders. “I need you to go into the house, shower change your clothes and I'll take you back to the hospital, but before we go back, we want to make sure your story is tight.”

Gabbriello looked him in the eyes and nodded before walking up the stairs.

A half hour later, they were heading back to the hospital.

Nicholas told him if questioned by the police, do not mention that he shot back at the other car. He told him to tell the truth about everything else because it's easier to remember the truth. Nicholas looked at him as he drove. “Do you understand what I’m telling you?”

“Yeah, I got it,” Gabbriello said as they pulled up in front of the hospital again. This time, there were several police cars. As soon as Gabbriello walked through the doors, he heard Carmine’s mother screaming. He knew by the screaking sound that one of his best friends was gone.

The police questioned Gabbriello, and he followed Nicholas’ instructions. Rinaldo and Mariano gave the same story as Gabbriello.

After that night, his other best friend, Rinaldo, changed. There was a hardness about him. Gabbriello didn’t blame him. They all changed after that night.

Five days later, they were all heading to the funeral. Gabbriello was dressed in a tailored black suit. He put on a pair of black sunglasses before walking with his father and brother into a waiting car.

Luigi Pasetti was one of Roberto’s Lieutenant and all the families show up to pay their respect for losing his son. There were a few hundred people in attendance at the funeral.

Gabbriello stood next to Rinaldo as they lowered Carmine's body into the ground. He leaned over so that only Rinaldo could hear him. “I promise you on my life, we will find those mutherfuckers and take care of them.” Gabbriello promised himself that he would never hesitate to take out another man that stepped to him again. He would never allow anyone to get a jump on him again.

Later, at the house, Gabbriello sat next to Rinaldo, who was quiet throughout the day. “You need anything?”

He glared at Gabbriello. “Yeah, I need to take care of those mutherfuckers that killed my brother.”

“You know you need to let your father take care of that.”

“Gabe, I need to take care of them.”

Gabbriello looked into his eyes. “Okay, but we have to do this the right way.”

Rinaldo nodded. they were both nineteen years old and already he had been through more shit than the average man goes through in his lifetime.

A week later, the men that shot up their car were located. Luigi wanted to handle the situation, but Gabbriello convinced him that he and Rinaldo could handle it. Gabbriello said that Rinaldo needed this to get past the anger of his brother’s death.

As the Capo of the region, Roberto requested and was given permission by the boss to attack members of a rival organization. They needed to get permission because if there was any blowback, the entire Deluca organization would back them.

After getting the approval, Gabbriello and Rinaldo put a plan in place. Rinaldo wanted to go after them with guns blazing and shoot up the place where they hung out. but Gabbriello wanted to send a strong, clear message. He wanted all to know that the Delucas ran Philadelphia, and he wanted to make sure that only the people responsible paid the price with their life. Gabbriello had a plan, but he needed to Rinaldo to keep a cool head to carry out the plan.
