“As they should.” I laughed.

Then… I thought.

“What made you… hug me?” I asked, already suspecting the answer.

And itwasn’tthat she was that impressed with the pictures from her shoot.

“Ky told me about you. He had to, after yall’s energy the other day.” She laughed. “But don’t worry, I know it’s supposed to be on the low.”

At least there’s that?

“Much appreciated,” I said. “And good to see you.”

“You too!” After she’d turned to leave, I moved back to where Nick was standing.

He looked up at me with a grin.

“You know once the sister accepts you, it’s a done deal right?”

I shook my head, brushing him off. “That’s how it went with you and Noah?”

He chuckled. “My sister almost scared her off, coming on too strong,” he explained. “But the family angle was definitely important. I think it made a difference.”

“I’m sure it helps the foundation feel secure, right? Makes it feel more… set in stone.”

“Yeah. Especially with the whole thing of social media in the mix. When you have your world outside of that shit, it helps ground you, helps you back to the core of what’s important. The people who are important. All that other shit is just… noise.”

Just noise.

It wasn’t minimizing or dismissive, it just…was.

There was something I wanted,Kyir, and the feeling was beautifully mutual. I didn’twantthe other stuff, the noise, to get in the way.

It was just so much easier said than done.

Not impossible, though.

A few minutes later, I left Nick to find Winnie’s group. They were seated in VIP as well, at a table near Myanna and her friends. I spent a bit of time being introduced to everyone I didn’t already know—as Winnie’s friend, not Kyir’s girlfriend—and then spent a bitmoretime fending off flirting.

Then the show started and I was on my feet the whole time.

The venue was perfect for this—only a couple hundred people could even fit, which kinda made it feel more amplified. The club was painted in navy blue light, accented with neon teal for the safety lights on the steps, railings, and directory signage. It gave it all a kind of icy feel that was played up by just enough fake smoke to give a hazy feel like you were really up in the clouds, at the top of a mountain.

The vibes were immaculate.

I screamed with everybody else when Kyir came bouncing out, looking dangerously good in simple attire—fresh sneakers, jeans, fresh white tee, his chains. For a quick moment, I wished I was here with Bianca, or even Jules, who didn’t know about me and Kyir yet, but if I fessed up, she was someone else I could unabashedly thirst over him with.

For now, I just kept it in my head.

Some of it probably did spill onto my face, but not enough to stand out, not with the crowd going wild over Kyir and all his special guests. I’d already heard the song with Vanity, and the song with Holly, but then he performed three others to complete this album preview that I hadn’t yet heard.

Ones hewouldn’tplay for me.

Because… they wereaboutme.

Or rather, about…us.

“Wait, don’t pull it out, I ain’t about that kinda clout…”
