For a long,longmoment.

“What?’

“You heard me correctly,” I told her, meeting her curious gaze as she propped her hands on her hips.

“So… revenge? That’s what all this is about?”

I raised an eyebrow. “You went straight there? Didn’t even ask the details?”

“Nyx, Renard Belrose was obsessed with your mother. He hated Saanvi for rejecting him, and he and Etienne terrorized her. I can pretty well guess they used all the resources at their disposal, including originalThorns.”

“So… you think he was givenordersto do what he did?”

Alicia blinked, hard, then offered a subtle shrug. “Honestly… I don’t know. Would it make it easier for you if…?”

“Not really.”

She took a step forward, towards where I was sitting on the bed. “And… what about Saanvi? Did you ever find her afterward, did she ever tell—”

I shook my head. “She never told me anything. Not the truth anyway. She told me she’d killed my father, but he was actually just… here in Vegas with a kid and a wife and a whole following who had no idea of the man hereallywas.”

“Did you tell her you knew?”

I pulled in a deep breath through my nose, exhaling it the same way. “Didn’t get the chance to.”

“Oh. Does that mean….”

“She’s dead.”

“Did you do it?”

My face dropped into a frown and I almost laughed at the expression on Alicia’s face before I answered.

“No. I didn’t kill my mother.”

“I’m justasking,” she insisted. “No judgement if you had, honestly.”

I lifted an eyebrow. “Really?”

“Nyx, she dropped you into a den of lions when you were eight years old and just… left. And it’s not like she didn’t know who she was leaving you with because they’d been torturinghersince before you were born,” Alicia said.

Not that she had to convince me.

I agreed.

But… as with my father, someone else had gotten to my mother before I could even decide. The only difference there was, I knewexactlywho had been responsible for that.

“So when you told me you were here for the brotherhood you meant that, huh?” Alicia asked, taking a seat beside me on the bed.

“What?”

“That first day, after my people snatched your ass up fromBottoms,” she explained. “You said something to me about sticking around Vegas for the brotherhood. I thought you just meant being aPredator, but I realize now—you knew Blue was your brother back then.”

I blew out a sigh.

Of all the things Blue seemed to be pissed at me about, thatwas the one thing I could accept.

I hadn’t been transparent about my reasons for being in Vegas, but that was never something he asked about. But when he talked about that “mighty fist” shit, that circle of five he felt like I was part of...Iknew exactly why he felt that connection.
