Because… yes, he could.

Which meant hehadto know what he’d done to me.

“Just come on,” he said, when I didn’t reply. “It’s getting chilly out here, and I can’t have your ass with pneumonia.”

Itwasgetting chilly, so I wasn’t about to argue.

He was the one to retrieve my shoes from the pier, and we caught a few strange looks on the way back to my room. But mostly, people minded their business. It was one thing that had drawn me toEscape.

I didn’t want to be stared at, recognized, or hell -talked to, unless I started the conversation.

I just wanted to…be.

Instead of stopping at the beginning of the bridge that led to my villa, Isaiah walked me to the door.

“Go in your room, dry yourself off, and go to bed. You’re in for the night,” he said, with an air of authority I didn’t feel like he had - orshould have -over me.

“According to who?” I questioned, eliciting a smirk that set off foreign tingles over my skin.

“According tome,” he said, tipping his head as he leaned in toward me. “Take your ass in the room, so I can go to mine and get the sand out of my crack. Please.”

I rolled my eyes. “Well, since you saidplease.”

Without looking back, I keyed my way into the door, closing and locking it firmly behind me. The first thing I did was head for my cell phone, which I’d purposely left in my room because I didn’t feel like being bothered.

So much for that.

I turned on the screen to find several texts from people I loved, all checking in with me—no multiple messages, no missed calls, just… checking.

Which was fine.

I responded to the messages to give them peace of mind, and then Ididdry myself off, like Isaiah had demanded.

I had no intention of going to bed though.
