“Stop deflecting,” he countered. “You think I haven’t noticed you’re not sleeping? Barely eating. Moody…”

“So we’re going to blame all this on… what, my period starting?”

“Shit, I don’t know, but baby…somethingis up,” he said, in a soothing tone as his hands planted at my waist, pulling me into him. “Maybe I’m wrong – maybe this is just a normal valley, and we just haven’t been on the same wavelength and need to pull back together. I’m good with doing that –I want to do that. But I also want you to consider that…”

“I’mthe problem?”

“I didn’t say that,” he quickly corrected. “I’m not absolving myself of needing to communicate better, or any of that. I think we’ve both been off, and we can both do better with just… saying what we need to say. Instead of assuming how the other might feel?”

I pushed out a breath, then nodded. “I… I can agree with that,” I told him, and then welcomed the press of his lips to mine.

“Good. Now… about Tamra…”

I rolled my eyes. “Fine. She’s your friend.”

“Nah,” he chuckled. “That’s not good enough. It obviously has been bothering you, so… why don’t you come out with us one night. Hell, tonight,” he suggested. “So you can see just how much she is not checking for me like that.”

“Okay, but areyouchecking forher?”

I let out a squeal as Isaiah grabbed me by the ass, using his hold there to lift me up onto the counter.

“Is thatreallyeven a question?”

Was it?

Was it?

… no.

Not really.

Still, itfeltlike a question, and it made sense in my head, even with nothing but paranoia to support it.

Iwantedto know better than to think he wanted anybody except me. And at the moment, instead of hesitating… I went with that feeling.

“No. Not at all.”
