Ugh.

What is that smell?

Trouble focusing during my morning writing session had driven me to put headphones on, filling my conscious with white noise. I’d shifted gears, instead returning to my ongoing email thread with Rowan Phillips about the re-entry program I wanted to bring to the Cartwright center. Assistance with housing, mental health, education, healthcare – and whatever else other young trafficking survivors might need to establish real freedom.

Especiallyas I came to a place of my own, this was paramount for me.

So I was working.

The blotting out of any distractions had paved the way for me to be productive, but it also made me quite easy to sneak up on.

I had no idea Isaiah was there.

Well… until I smelled him.

Based on the odor he was putting off, the sight of him in sweat-drenched athletic clothes was no surprise.

“Hey,” I greeted, entirely distracted from my work now that he was pulling his shirt off. “I wasn’t expecting you until later.”

“Yeah, my bad for the interruption,” he said, stepping over to where I was seated at the bedroom desk this time – my front office space was too damn comfortable. “We’re finishing up a tournament at the center, so the showers were crowded over there. Your place is closer to there than mine.”

“It’s fine,” I told him from behind my hand, covering my nose. “Youneeda shower, so please, have at it.”

A playful frown crossed his face before he leaned in, grabbing my ponytail to keep me still as he planted a sloppy kiss on my lips while I tried to squirm away.

“Ewwww!” I screeched, my disgust overshadowed by my inability tonotgiggle at his antics. “Zay, yousmell.”

“You love it,” he teased, making me frown, and fully stand up to get away from him. “Ah yeah. Come ‘ere girl.”

“No!” I screeched – again, muted by laughter as he wrapped his sweaty arms around me. I couldn’t even beadequatelyappalled by his mustiness with his lips all over my neck, planting kisses everywhere he could reach. “Youstiiiink!”

“I thought you liked me smelly, my bad,” he chuckled, finally releasing me so I could catch my breath. “You know… since you’re on a break anyway—”

“I’m not on a break, you interrupted me!”

“What’s the difference, princess?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. “Either way, you’re not working, so… you may as well come help me get clean… you know, since Istiiiink,” he teased in a high pitch that was supposed to mimic mine. “Come do something about it.”

Iwantedto turn down that offer.

Especially since he smelled really, really, extrabad today, after spending the morning helping Cree facilitate a youth basketball tournament at the center. I was proud of him, truly, andhappyfor him that he was finding things that aligned with what he’d always wanted. Sure, those professional basketball dreams were out of reach for him now, but maybe he could still do what he loved in a different way.

But… the wholefinding new dreams to reachthing was kind of a turn-on.

As was his removal of his boxers.

“You coming? And…coming?” he teased, and…

Shit.

Yes.

Yes, I was.

“Get under the waterimmediately,” I fussed, making him laugh as he climbed in and turned on the hot spray.

I actually took my time getting undressed—and popping back over to my computer to make sure my progress was saved—before I actually joined him.

Giving him a few minutes to himself to get the funk off first.
