So, we spend the day laying about, talking. I tell her everything we know about Liam, J, and the trafficking. I told her some of the Alex bits, but not all of it. It’s not my story to tell.

Telling her about the morning I found Rory makes me feel like a weight has been lifted. I’ve spent so long with that day playing in my mind on a loop, and no matter how hard I tried to bury it, I couldn’t. But telling Cara about the moment I found him has finally put the day on stop.
Having her curled into me on the snuggle chair grounds me. She’s making me watch another Disney movie. The woman does love her Disney.
“Hey, baby…”
“Mmm…” She glances up at me, letting me know she’s listening then focuses back on the screen.
I chuckle but continue anyway. “I’m sorry that I hid the truth from you for so long, and I’m sorry that I dragged you here into our family drama.”
She sits up and frowns at me. “You don’t need to apologise. I wish you had told me sooner, but I understand why you didn’t. And your family is my family now. Besides, I should be apologising to you. I kind of brought my own drama to the party.”
“I love you, princess.”
“I love you too.”
And just like that, she curls back into my side, focussed back on the TV.
Chapter 43
“Shit.” I roll my neck, trying to ease the tension.
I watch the security footage for the tenth time since I got it, and right there, as plain as day, is fucking Anjelica Russo. The door to the office opens as I continue to stare at the screen.
“Son of a bitch,” Killian yells behind me. I hear him take a seat at his desk as Connor and Ronan follow him through the door.
I spin in my chair to face my brothers. They all have a look of pure rage on their faces, mirroring my own.
“Do you know where she is now?” Connor asks.
“Nope. I’m running some facial recognition software, hoping it picks her up.” Connor raises his eyebrows at me. “What? It was Rory’s software… I just tweaked it.” I shrug my shoulders like it’s no big deal.
“Is she alone?” Killian queries, his eyes fixed on the screen.
“She has a couple of minions with her, but I’ve not picked up anyone else. Doesn’t mean they aren’t here though.” I let out a sigh, taking a drink of my warm beer. “I’ve increased security around the women and Maddie, but I think we maybe need to tighten our circle.”
“What do you mean?” Connor questions me, confusion crossing his face.
Killian answers before I have a chance to respond. “He means we need to stick together, move in together, work from home where we can. Limit our movements.” I nod because that’s exactly what I mean.
I didn’t want to have to move us out of our house, it’s still pretty hot here in New York and I know Cara struggles with the heat, but my house isn’t big enough for everyone, so here we are at Ma’s. This house is the one we moved into a few years after moving to New York. We asked her if she wanted us to sell it after Da died and she moved back to Ireland but she called us crazy. While she didn’t know if she could ever move back here, she didn’t want to sell the place, just in case, and she wanted a big house so she could have us over for holidays and weekends when we all had a family.
We were right to go into lockdown, because two days after she arrived in New York, Liam and Vincenzo arrived, together. We still haven’t figured what they are up to, but we know they are looking for us.
The kitchen is busy this morning. Maddie is sitting on the counter next to Liv and Cara, chewing their ears off about Disney princesses. I chuckle as I head around the counter to grab a coffee, and Ma hands me a cup before I get there.
“Thanks.”
“We haven’t talked since the boys found out about your Da. How are you?”
“I’m fine.”
“Please don’t shut me out, son.”
“I’m not Ma, I’m really fine. I’m glad that I told them. I just wish I had done it sooner.” I lean in, pecking her on the cheek as Killian enters the room, followed by a pissed Bella. I raise my eyebrows in question. He just shakes his head before making his way over to us to grab a coffee.
