Look, I need you to come the house, I need help with something.

Just don’t let on you’re leaving.

I look down at all of the messages from Finn. Something doesn’t feel right. They don’t sound like him and there are no kisses at the end. It’s silly I know, he’s probably got a million other things to worry about, but he always puts a kiss on the end of his messages. Figuring it can’t hurt, I reply.

Me

Sorry, I was asleep. Are you okay? What do you need?

Finn

Can you come to the house, please?

Alone.

Me

I thought I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere alone?

Finn

You’ll be safe, you’re only coming here. I need to be alone with you.

Me

Okay. I won’t be long.

Finn

Don’t tell my brothers or we’ll never get our alone time.

This isn’t Finn. He wouldn’t be so blasé about my safety. I grab my phone and go in search of the others. I see them all out in the back garden by the pool. Ronan is in the pool with Maddie, teaching her how to swim. I look around for Seamus but don’t see him or Niamh anywhere. I’m almost certain those two have something going on, despite the denial from Seamus every time I ask him.

I spend a few minutes watching the family, relaxed and having fun, and deciding I don’t want to disturb them, I grab my shoes and keys to the Range Rover and head out.

Knowing he’ll be pissed, I try giving him a call, but it just rings out. Just as I’m about to pull out into traffic, I see one of the security cars pull up, and Connor gets out of the car. I roll down the window and call him over. “Connor.” He gives me a confused look then heads to the driver’s side.

“Where the hell are you going, Cara?” He sounds pissed; I’m not used to this from Connor.

“I got a few messages from Finn asking me to go to the house, but I’m not sure they were from him. They asked me not to tell you guys I was leaving. I’m really worried.”

“Get out of the car. I’ll head over to Finn’s, and you go back inside.”

“No. You want to come with me, then you can get in, but I’m going over there. He’s, my husband.”

“Jesus, Cara, it’s not fucking safe. Please just go back inside, I’ll go get him.”

I shake my head and roll up the window. Connor grabs the door handle and tries to open it, but I’d already made sure it was locked. He slams his hand on the window. “Dammit, Cara.”

He walks around the passenger side, pulling his phone out. I unlock the door so he can climb in, then I pull out into traffic, the security car right on my tail.

The anger radiates from Connor as he glares at me. I shift in my seat, a little uncomfortable under the weight of his glare. I keep my eyes focussed on the road.

“Kill, we got a situation.” I quickly glance at Connor, His eyes narrow as my gaze catches his and I quickly turn back to the road.

“Yeah, Cara got a couple of messages from Finn, she says they aren’t from him though… hold on, I’ll send you them.” He grabs my phone from the centre console, unlocking it, tapping away––I’m assuming sending the messages to Killian. I’m pissed he knows the code for my phone, but I don’t dare challenge him on it, I’ve already made him mad, and I don’t want to make it worse.

“No, she’s not at home, she’s driving the damn car, stubborn little shit refused to get out. We’re heading over there now. Can you meet us there?” He’s silent, listening to Killian on the other end of the line. Kill doesn’t need a phone, I can hear him yelling from here about how I’m in so much trouble and it’s not safe and how Finn is going to skin my arse when he finds out how reckless I’m being.
