Page 50 of Say You Promise

"Well, something caused his blood pressure to rise, and his heart rate dramatically spiked, so we are checking him out to see what might have caused that."

I nod my head and watch as they run tests. Why, tonight of all nights, when he's on the brink of waking up do I get pulled into this crap? Once the nurses are done looking him over and leave the room, I say, "I'm sorry, babe. I promise everything will be okay. I wouldn't leave you unless this was necessary. Please wake up soon. I need you."

I squeeze his hand and wait just a moment to make sure nothing else happens. He doesn't move just lays there peacefully asleep, so I take a deep breath and leave the room.

OnceIfinallymakeit back to my house, I have roughly an hour before Ethan picks me up. I don't want to even think about how I'm going to explain this to my parents.

When I walk through the door, Elio is there.

"Hey, Gigi, how's Mason?"

I can tell my brother is genuinely concerned. Mason was somewhat of a big brother figure to him. He would come over and throw the ball around with him and play video games here and there.

"He's getting stronger every day, but he's not ready to wake up."

"I'm surprised you left his side, Gigi." I close my eyes and pull in a deep breath through my nose to keep myself from reacting to those words.

"I didn't want to leave his side, believe me. If I had a choice, I wouldn't, but I have somewhere I have to be tonight." He nods his head, seemingly content with my response.

"Where's mom and dad?"

"Dad is working late and said he'd be home around seven tonight, and mom stopped to pick up Chinese by the old house, so she'll be home a little later."

"Damn, I love Hunan's. I wish I didn't have to go." He laughs, "I'm not sorry, more for me."

I hurry down the hall towards my room, but before I make it in, Elio is calling.

"Hey, Gigi." I turn back to look at him. "I miss you, just so you know." My eyes soften as I take in his sandy blonde hair and big brown eyes. He's here alone a lot without me coming home at night. I know my dad has been working late to make extra money, and my mom has been doing physical therapy after work to help her recover from her fall a few weeks ago. But in my world lonely is the better evil.

"I'm sorry, Lo. As soon as Mason is better, I promise I'll be around more." He nods in understanding, and I enter my room. I throw my dress and shoes on the bed and hurry to the shower.

After I've showered, I head over to the garment bag and open it up to see how I should style my hair and makeup. The man bought me a Christian Dior dress and matching black heels. This dress probably costs more than all the clothes I have ever owned in my entire life combined.

It's a black vintage Dior dress with drop sleeves, and silk embroidery. At first glance, I thought it was lace, but when I picked it up to hold it against my body in the mirror, I knew it was silk.

My hair needs to be classic to match the dress, so I style it in soft curls pinned back to one side and add a soft smokey eye for makeup.

As I'm putting the finishing touches on my makeup, I hear his car pull up outside.

I steal a glance out my bedroom window, and sure enough, his black Bugatti is sitting right outside my house. That car is fucking sexy as hell but so out of place in this neighborhood. His car cost more than every house on my cul-de-sac combined. I roll my eyes at the ridiculousness of this entire situation and decide it's time to put on my dress.

The dress is absolutely breathtaking. At first glance, I thought it was all black, but the silk embellished layer has a deep merlot hue. Underneath a is a black fitted silk slip dress that hits me mid-thigh while the see-through wine-colored embroidery layer continues to the floor. It's super sexy but very elegant and classic at the same time. The shoes are five-inch heeled sandals with a thin leather ankle strap and toe strap.

When I check my reflection in the mirror, I know I look good. It's incredible what an expensive dress can do for your confidence. I'm about ready to walk out the door when I hear Lo.

"Gianna, you are not going to believe what kind of car is parked out front."

Shit, he noticed. I'm heading down the hallway when Elio sees me and does a double-take.

"Gianna, you look beautiful. Where are you going? Wait, is that Bugatti here for you?"

Before I can answer any of those questions, the doorbell rings. I throw my head back to the ceiling and groan. Why did he have to come to the door? This isn't an actual date.

Elio rushes down the stairs, eager to see who's at the door. He throws it open, and Ethan stands there looking devilishly handsome and sexy. He's wearing all-black just like me. Black suit, black shirt, black bow tie, black pocket square, the only color is in his cerulean blue eyes.

Elio stares at him, completely awestruck. "Gigi, why is Ethan Grand at our house?" He doesn't even turn to look at me. He just continues staring at Ethan while Ethan's penetrating gaze is locked on me at the top of the stairs.

I put my hand on my hip, exasperated by this entire exchange.
