He ground his leg against me, and my words were cut off as I forced myself to hold back the moan that threatened to escape me.

“I do want to kill you,” I finally managed to say through gritted teeth.

Kade’s thigh stilled between my legs. His muscles were trembling, but he pulled away from me, releasing my hands and sitting up on the bed. “Then you’d better get the fuck up. Let’s go before my wolf has his way.”

Scrambling to the side of the bed, I shot to my feet, staring at Kade’s broad back as he picked up his shirt from the floor and pulled it on.

“Go where?”

“You’ll see.”

CHAPTER 20

~ Kade ~

Iclenchedmyjaw, internally fighting my wolf for control. He’d never been like this before. Wild. Feral.Desperate.Even in the beginning, when we’d been just starting to get to know each other, he’d never fought so hard against me.

I quickened my pace, not caring that Raine was almost running to keep up. It was her fault this was happening. Whatever she’d done to us, however she’d bonded us, my wolf believed she was his. I’d felt his primal satisfaction when we’d been in my bed, my leg grinding against her, the scent of her arousal driving us both mad. He didn’t care that she’d tried to end our life.

I cursed Locke for making me watch her. I was supposed to be the safe option, and here I was, frantic to get to the training ground, my cock so hard in my pants it ached. All because of that female. Thathumanwho wanted me dead.

It was a relief when I reached the iron double doors of the training cavern. Turning, I waited for her. When she stopped beside me, her body looking way too fuckable in that bloody leather outfit Lyr had provided for her, I opened the doors. When we were both through, I shut them again and scoured the area quickly to check it was empty, then I jogged straight for the massive obstacle course at the other end of the cavern.

I’d told my brothers I’d keep her in our shared space, but if I’d stayed there, who knows what would have happened. It was the middle of the day outside of the mountain, so odds were most of the monsters were asleep. Either way, I was taking my chances. Besides, I had a feeling Raine needed this as much as I did.

With her scent still in my nostrils from where she stood at the other end of the room, I raced through the obstacle course faster than ever before, leaping across spaces, climbing over walls higher than houses, scaling up and down the ropes that dangled from the ceiling, and running and dodging like a crazed animal. I knew she was watching. Her scent of coconut and steel permeated the air like it was determined to be known.

By the time I’d completed the course three times, sweat streamed from me, soaking my hair and shirt. I was still hard, but my wolf had settled a little. Enough for me to control him, at least.

If the human weren’t with me, I would have let him run out his frustration using his own paws, but I couldn’t trust him when he was like this. Hungry. Insatiable. Not with her around. Even if she weren’t there, I couldn’t have been sure he wouldn’t hunt her down, no matter where she went in the mountain.

I strode back toward the human, who was busy inspecting the racks of weapons against one wall. She pretended not to notice me, but her eyes slid to the side, watching as I grabbed a towel and wiped off my face. I guzzled water from a nearby jug and ripped off my sweaty shirt.

I detected the scent of the human’s arousal, and I couldn’t stop the low growl that rumbled out of me.

“You’re up,” I said, stalking over to her.

“What?”

“You heard me. Get moving,” I said, gesturing to the obstacle course with my head.

Her eyes grew wide, but she didn’t argue. “Fine.”

I wasn’t surprised she agreed. This human wasn’t like the others. The whole time she’d been watching me, I could feel her excitement at the sight of the challenge. Shewantedto try the obstacle course.

And I was right. Raine was born to run, and she raced through the obstacles like they were made for her. She was nowhere near as fast as most monsters, but I admired her determination. Admired the way she would size up the obstacle, calculating the best way to conquer it, before tackling it without an ounce a fear. This wasn’t a course made for humans, but she was doing a damn good job.

My shouts and growls from the sideline spurred her to go faster until her face was red and fatigue pulled at her features. Increased stress and a rapid heartbeat were supposed to make the change happen faster for humans, and she really needed to fucking change, so I pushed her harder. The sooner her blood turned black, the better it would be for my brothers and me, and for her.

I couldn’t fucking protect her, no matter how much the bond was compelling me to do so. Her best chance was to turn so she wouldn’t be a target. The human was about to swing on a rope across a deep pit when the faint sound of chatter had my head turning toward the door.

My nostrils flared, and in a few strides, I was by Raine’s side, grasping her shoulder to stop her from grabbing the rope.

“What the hell?” she snapped.

I silenced her by clamping my hand over her mouth. “Quiet. They’ll hear you,” I said low into her ear.

Immediately, she stilled.
