“When we’re set to go in? Text your old man. Let him know where we are to ease your guilt. But as your VP? We got this and he never has to know and you might be able to slip back into his bed without him ever knowing you were gone. Easy in, easy out. We’re gonna chop her up and bury her somewhere no one will ever be able to find her. She doesn’t deserve to live behind bars. Not for the things she did. And for real, I still can’t believe she did all of this for outer appearance. Motherfucker. So many lives wasted for what?”

“Nothing matters,” I growl, anger getting the better of me. “Her insane reasons, money and livestock stolen and sold, the lives ripped from this world…nothing can be changed for the past is carved in stone. But right here? Right fucking now? Her blood needs to warm our fingers to compensate for the cold and darkness she brought upon all of our lives.”

A low whistle flows through the cold, dark night.

“Agreed,” Medley snaps and points at the phone in my hand. “Now text your man because the coast is clear and we’re going in.”

Cassia jogs toward us. I know it’s her because she has long reddish-brown hair which she’s put in two braids and though she was smart enough to wear all black, the neon pink hair ties she used are shining brighter than the damn moonlight. It’s why I’m wearing a black beanie that I’ve stuffed all my hair underneath. Medley is also wearing one, most of the others as well.

“Ramona and Posie disarmed the alarm,” Cassia informs us. “The car you described Jorie got in when she made her escape is in the garage. The rest of the house is quiet.”

I let my gaze collide with Medley. “Everyone is set?”

“Fuck, yes.” Medley grabs her phone and simultaneously plugs in her earpiece.

We all have a handsfree set our fathers also used to communicate. It comes in handy when we’re working on the ranch and have to work together while our hands are busy, for instance when herding cattle at a long distance or trying to catch one of the animals that ran off.

“I’ve texted everyone, they will enter at your signal,” my VP tells me.

I quickly type a message to Ezra and have mixed feelings. I want him to read it and come in case we do need backup, but on the other hand I don’t want him to be involved in something we consider ours to handle. Because his loyalty also lies with Atticus and his MC. And I do realize it would be cleaner to let them handle it but what can I say; the taste of vengeance is now hitting our senses and the taste is too tempting.

Shoving my phone in my pocket, I jog toward the house and keep an eye on my surroundings. Three of my girls are on the opposite side of the house and a handful of others are already hiding in the backyard in case someone escapes through the back. Crouching down I double check the entry point and let my hand slide to the gun strapped to my right leg.

“Lock on the door is picked and ready.” Ramona’s soft voice flows through my earpiece.

“Going in,” I rumble and reach for the doorknob while aiming my gun forward.

Slowly turning it in my hand, I open the door without any sound and slide inside, knowing both Medley and Cassia have my back while all the others have their eyes on the outside of the house.

The sound of a TV and flashing lights draws my attention to the living room at the end of the hallway. Covering ground with my back to the wall and aiming straight forward, I easily clear the kitchen and get to a point where I get two options; enter the living room or head upstairs. Seeing the flashing of the TV, I swing my head back and signal to Medley we’re going to check the living room first.

The first step I take inside the living room is when the silence breaks. A bullet whizzes through the air and slams into the wall behind me. I crouch down and return fire while I hear cursing coming from behind me. There’s no time to check on my sister when the bullets are still coming at us.

Jacob’s head peeks from behind a large cabinet before pulling it back to hiding, making me aware of his exact location. I don’t wait for him to peek around it but instead start to fire at the cabinet, knowing the bullets will penetrate. His body sags forward and he crumbles to the ground.

“Fucking bitch, you killed him,” Jorie screeches.

“Then he shouldn’t be shooting at us or hiding your murdering ass,” I fire back.

“He didn’t do anything,” Jorie snaps. “You guys burst into his house and start fuckin’ shooting.”

Are you fucking kidding me?My mind offers. “We didn’t fire the first round, Jorie.”

“You didn’t exactly ring the doorbell either,” she snaps and fires her gun.

Tired of this useless conversation I tell her, “The place is surrounded, Jorie. Chitchat won’t help, we all know what you did.”

Sinister laughter comes from where she’s standing. “Right. You might have suspicions but you don’t have any evidence. I called the cops before y’all came in here. I’m not as stupid as I seem. We were all trained by our fathers and the motion detectors I put near the door flagged you guys when you did the whole recon thing. It’s a matter of seconds before the cops will come and I can explain how you guys came in here, guns blazing, and killed Jacob.”

“Fuck,” Medley’s voice flows through my earpiece.

There are a lot of thoughts entering my brain at a hundred miles an hour. Options. Strategies.

Yet there’s only calmness overtaking me when I bluntly tell her, “I guess I have to end your life within seconds instead of torturing your petty ass for hours.”

“What?” she squeaks. “No fucking way.”

I rise to my feet and squeeze the trigger at the same time, knowing exactly where Jorie is hiding in the living room because I calculated where her voice came from. I can feel the bullet she fired at me hitting my vest. Another one licks liquid fire through my skin as it tears through my arm.
