“Hot damn,” Hudsyn whispers.

“Since last night,” I add.

“Holy shit. Really? No wonder you asked him to stick around.” Great. My big sister is laughing her ass off.

“It’s not like that. Well, he did mention he wasn’t done with me yet but…I don’t know…we talked too. Not just pillow talk but we shared personal stuff.” I grab the phone and take it off speaker as I turn to stare out the window. “It feels different but I have no clue if I can trust these foreign feelings. I just–I don’t know.”

“Medley,” Hudsyn says in a tender tone.

“Yeah?”

“That’s where my mind and body went when I collided with Ezra, going into overdrive when he showed up at the ranch.”

“Fuck,” I mutter.

“Yes, I believed you did that four times already. I’d say you’ve got that part covered.”

“Very funny, Prez,” I snap.

“Oh, I think it is.” Hudsyn chuckles and clears her throat. Her voice is all business and serious when she says, “But also perfect timing and a great choice. When you mentioned he showed up a few days ago, my old man asked Atticus to run a background check on Ivar Larksson.”

This doesn’t come as a surprise. She’s currently staying with Cowboy Bikers MC Lawmen, an MC that handles crime cases and is a division of the government. I kept Hudsyn up-to-date about the ranch and our sisterhood. She might be my older sister, but she’s also the president of our MC.

When someone comes for one of our own the way Ivar did and how Cassia reacted, it makes sense for her to dive into the life of the person that might be a threat to all of us.

“And?” I press, suddenly curious myself.

“Spotless record. The man is seriously wealthy due to investments, which he started with at an early age. Atticus mentioned something about how he owned different properties in New York City and those are worth a shitload but he also has a fat bank account. The man doesn’t have to lift a finger for the rest of his life. So, no wonder he doesn’t have any issues with sticking around. Tell me, though. How’s the suit handling the smell of fresh manure in the morning?”

“The suit showed up in jeans, biker boots, and riding a freaking bike instead of sitting in the backseat of a limousine this time.”

Her laughter overtakes the silence in the room.

“Okay, you know what? I’m done talking with you. Go enjoy your vacation and I’ll wrap it up here and check on Ramona since I was supposed to join them two hours ago,” I grumble.

“Now, now, don’t get pissy with me when life hands you something yummy to taunt you with. Besides, it worked out, didn’t it?” Her voice goes from taunting to a soft but serious tone when she adds, “Enjoy yourself for a change and don’t overthink things. Atticus mentioned he knew someone who was on his team before he was medically discharged as a SEAL. He’s one of the good guys, sis. You know Atticus doesn’t say that shit lightly.”

“Yeah,” I mutter. “Gotta go.”

“I mean it,” Hudsyn says. “Nail him at least four more times before you–” I end the call to stop her ramblings and shake my head, thankful there are miles between us.

My gaze drifts to the window again where Ivar is leaning against the fence. Great. He’s facing Remi and it seems they’re deep in conversation. Ugh. I just dealt with my older sister and now my middle one is chatting away with him. I shove my phone into my pocket and head outside.

“Hey,” I quip and when Remi meets my gaze I ask, “What time does your shift at the clinic start?”

She gives me a smirk and instead of answering my question she shoots me one in return. “Want to get rid of me, huh?” She snickers and strolls toward me to lean in and adds on a whisper, “No worries, the man only has eyes for you and has basically interrogated me to get to know everything about you.”

My cheeks heat and I turn my head away from Ivar to hiss, “You didn’t tell him anything, did you?”

She gives me a quick peck on the cheek. “No worries, sis. You know me, I turned the tables and fired all my questions at him. Oh, and just so you know? I approve. Okay, gotta run. Bye now.”

“Remi!” I shout as she jogs toward the clubhouse but she just waves without looking back.

Dammit. How can he have the vote from both of my sisters when I’m not even sure where this is going myself?

“Hey,” Ivar’s voice rumbles and I feel his finger lift my chin so I’m now facing him. “Everything okay?”

“Besides the fact both my sisters approve of you? Dandy. Just dandy.”
