“I thought Kai was having a good time,” Ramona remarks.
“Uh huh,” Cassia snaps. “I guess I was the festivity they had enough of because Calvin almost bit my head off when he said Kai was attending school next week and wouldn’t have any time left to spend with me so I should leave the both of them alone.”
“Calvin said those exact words?” I wonder out loud. “Because that’s fucking rude.”
Cassia’s shoulders sag. “No. But I got the hint when he said he’d appreciate it if I stop playing mommy because Kai didn’t need a substitute.”
“Motherfucker,” both me and Ramona snap at the same time.
“Leave it,” Cassia says. “He’s probably right and not to mention, it’s his kid. He’s the parent and who am I to spend time with his kid? Besides, I have three new horses who need to be trained, it’s not like I have the time to teach Kai how to ride.” She yawns and anyone can see it’s forced and fake. “I’m tired and am gonna call it a day. Enjoy the party. Oh, and congrats, Perry. Welcome to our fucked-up family where there’s never a dull moment.”
Ramona reaches out and pulls her into a hug. Cassia quickly returns it but stops just as fast to rush inside the clubhouse.
“What’s Calvin’s problem?” Ramona grumbles.
“I was wondering the same damn thing. I would suggest therapeutic sex but–”
Ramona cuts me off by laughing. “Not everything can be solved with therapeutic sex. And you do remember we didn’t get any and resolved our issues before we had sex.”
I wrap my arm around her waist and pull her close to whisper, “We’re good like that.”
“More than good,” she whispers back.
“Tell me,” I croon. “Did we do enough mingling yet? I’m ready for my other surprise.”
Ramona hums and tilts her head to the side, giving me better access to nibble her neck.
“Yes,” she breathes.
Music to my ears, both her agreement as the breathy moan tumbling from her lips, giving me another promise to be balls deep inside my old lady very soon.
“Let me tell Prez we’re heading out.”
I grab her hand and tug her with me, giving Hudsyn a lift of my chin who in return gives me a thumbs up.
“They’re already aware we’re taking this party elsewhere.” I chuckle and Ramona squeals when I swoop her off her feet.
I’m in too much of a hurry to walk to the truck. Once we’re inside, I hit the gas and drive safe but fast to get to the ranch. When I’m parking the truck and jump out to walk around to her side to open the door, she’s already standing beside it with her phone in hand.
“Do you want details first or see my gift to us?” she questions.
Once again tonight I’m caught by surprise and confusion. I thought her surprise would be to spend another night wrapped in one another’s embrace, simply enjoying our time together. Fuck. We’re like newlyweds without the actual rings on our fingers but that’s easily fixed. Besides, I’m already proudly wearing her claim.
“Come on, I’ll let you swoon first before springing all the details on you. Hell, maybe you’ll recognize her when you take in her beauty,” Ramona says and I instantly know what she’s talking about as she takes a step toward the stable.
“You didn’t,” I whisper and jog into the stable to glance at the stalls, noticing the one that was empty this morning is now holding a magnificent Friesian mare.
