“Montana!” Sassy exclaimed and began to wail as she leapt for him and an argument between her, the judge and her attorney broke out as the world tilted.

This was spiraling out of control, even if he got past the whole murder, he’d be away from Sydney for years. All for making sure she wasn’t being hurt. He was seeing red because the judge gave a damn excuse for something you shouldn’t even joke about. Why would she do that? Wasn’t that for Mr. Anderson to do? The Devil’s advocate was not a position she wanted to be in for him at this moment. If the ADA thought he had a special set of skills he had no idea how quickly this room could turn into a pile of corpses. Every potential weapon was being assessed in his mind. Decorative items, awards, and various office supplies. Before the judge could call out for help from her bailiff he could have necks snapped and skulls bludgeoned.

Trapped animals tended to attack and he was slowly slipping into the mode of fight. His mind ticked away options and alternatives. Ways of getting cross country or better yet out of the country. Syd would be safe. Firstly because Sassy would be one of the dead left in a heap on the floor and secondly because Turbo would take care of her. In his heart he knew the woman wouldn’t fail her as he found his way to some remote village in a country with no extradition with the United States.

“It wasn’t a fantasy,” Cream said, jarring him from the strategic planning and the tone she took made him remember her words about additional proof. Flipping her laptop toward the Judge after pressing play she lowered a boom sending a wave of nausea through him. Sounds of his daughter crying out for her mommy to stop or to help concussed around the room. “The video discovered on Mr. Everett’s phone proves not only was he raping his stepdaughter with her mother’s permission, but she was also a part of the molestation.”

The judge spun the video to the side, so Mr. Anderson could see the crime play out and Mike watched as Sassy’s body language shifted. Her lips curling into a bit of a smile and he wanted to lunge at her when Mr. Anderson spoke.

“Your honor, I’d like to draw up an arrest warrant for Sassy Everett,” he said lowering the volume on the video which might have saved Sassy’s life because he couldn’t understand how a woman could hear the cries of her daughter and keep going.

The judge had the receiver on her phone picked up before Mr. McMasters could protest as court officers stepped into the room. “Please arrest Sassy Everett, Mr. McMasters from the DA’s office will be contacting you about charges.”

“None of this will be admissible.”

“Ms. Castle?” Judge Yang questioned. “Do you have additional ways to provide a chain of custody.”

“Yes, your honor, and I have Sherriff Weston on deck for video calls, as well as former LAPD Sargent Dallas King, he worked in the cyber unit tracing child predators until he retired to Montana. As well as Dr. Rebecca Olsen, she is a trauma therapist and MD who examined the minor child and is currently the guardian ad litem while Mr. Hanover is being held on trial. Finally the man who helped obtain the data will be happy to break down how he got through the encryption and captured the information.”

“What about Mitch?” Sassy cried as the sweet sound of steel clinking on her wrists made Mike smile. “You know he killed him. No one else could kill him that way.”

The ADA glanced over at Mike as he slammed the laptop closed and shook his head. “We don’t have enough evidence to prosecute. It’s all circumstantial at this time I’m unable to provide a prima facie case. Nothing says he did it. I’m sorry for your loss, Ms. Everett his case will stay open until more evidence can be presented.”
