Minty laughed again. “Okay. You’re right. I’m intrigued.” Turning to look at Barrett, she continued. “I’ll send you a few ideas to see if it’s even feasible. If it’s good for you, I’ll need a couple of days to think about it.”

“Done!” Willa slapped her hand down on the arm of her chair and stood up. “Mama needs to go to bed.” She winked at Barrett. “And I’m bringing the big guy with me.”

Minty

Warm hands splayed across my back as I lay sprawled across Lucky’s chest, heaving from the morning’s sextivities.

“You remember that art exhibit we went to see?” His low, husky voice slid over me like a wet dream.

A small laugh escaped my lips. “How could I forget?”

He grunted and dropped his hand to my ass to give me a squeeze. “You,” he replied roughly. “You’re the goddess at play.” He stroked the naked skin of my back. “You’re everything a woman should be.”

I closed my eyes against the light.

Even still, I basked in his glow.

It made it difficult to go home, but I had plans with my boys, Junie needed me at the office, and I was determined to shop for princess dresses before Thursday.

Other than the hours spent fruitlessly searching for answers to OCD, it was a productive week, and when Thursday rolled around, I was more than ready to head back to Lucky and Brayleigh, newly purchased sparkles in hand.

Chapter Thirty-Five – I Will

Lucky

Brayleigh toddled along while Minty followed closely on her heels.

I wasn’t sure it was necessary to follow her that closely. As soon as we arrived at the zoo, Minty bought a giant helium balloon and tied it to the back of Brayleigh’s dress. The dress alone, so covered in ‘sparklies’, made her visible from outer space.

Trailing them by ten feet, it struck me how very beautiful they were together. Minty wore another new outfit. She was getting more comfortable showing her shape as well as a little skin.

I couldn’t say I didn’t miss the sexy librarian thing she had going on, but I wasn’t complaining either.

Brayleigh possessed no such inhibition, happily wearing one of the new princess dresses Minty brought for her yesterday. It had a fucking crinoline and came with a diamond tiara. I had to pull the car over and wrestle it from her. The damn thing kept catching the light and reflecting off the rearview mirror. Near blinded me. I huffed out a laugh and whispered a plea that she would not lose that delight with herself.

I loved the joy Minty found in giving presents. She bought for Brayleigh. She brought gifts to ‘her boys’ when we went there. Every time she went to the craft fair she seemed to come home with gifts for her friends and the kids. Currently, Rena and Brayleigh were cleaning up.

I slid my hand over the new leather wallet in my back pocket, the word ‘Captain’ embossed on the inside. She bought for me, too. I couldn’t remember the last time someone bought me a gift for no reason. She was a giver.

Minty dropped her bum down to her heels to listen to Brayleigh, her hand gently cupping her back to draw her close. The sun lit the gold in their hair, the barest hints of red in Minty’s. I smiled. That red hinted at the passion she so carefully hid.

I rubbed the heel of my palm over my chest as I watched them together. I hadn’t broached the subject of her moving in again, but it lived on the back of my tongue. I wanted this so bad I could taste it.

A similar scene with Hope and Brayleigh had unfolded countless numbers of times, so why did it feel so different with Minty and Brayleigh?

Mine.

Yes. They were mine. My girls. My loves. My life.

And I belonged, heart and soul, to them. I held my fingers up to make a frame around them. That right there was what I was going to live for. I pulled out my cell phone and snapped a pic.

Wanted to remember this feeling.

Minty

Going to the zoo with Lucky and Brayleigh was a dream. Brayleigh’s pleasure flashed like a beacon from her little face and filled my heart with light.

She had Lucky’s smile. I could pick out his features now, as well as Hope’s, on her tiny face. Two beautiful people, inside and out, created an angel.
