“Yer hand,” he requested of Jonan first. “And yers,” he turned to Nora.

Nora placedher palm on Jonan's, noting the difference in size.

Am I not to be afraid of a man with so much power and strength?

Their gazes locked, but she averted her eyes once more. The shaman appeared to sprinkle water on their hands. Nora looked up, surprised, as the water touched her skin. Their eyes metagain.

“Amelia, I will nae hurt ye.”

His words contained a promise. He must have noticedthefear on her face and wanted to calm her down. Those are not the actions of a brute.

Nora shifted her eyes away from her husband and took in the cheering crowd. The simple ceremony had been ideal, and Nora didn't think she could have asked for anything more... except for her sister.

“Amelia!” Leah waved alongside her nurse.

Nora waved back at her and the fiddler began to play another tune.

“‘Tis customary to dance,” Jonan said. He then took her hands in his and began to step to the music. The movements were simple, and they were soon dancing across the grass.

The clan members joined in, and everyone was dancing once more.

“We can head back now,” Jonan whispered in her ear.

Nora nodded, relieved. It had been enjoyable, but her feet hurt and she needed to sit.

“There is so much I dinnae ken about ye,” Jonan said lighty.

“I reckon I can say the same about you,” she replied without looking at him.

Jonan chuckled. “I reckon ye can, but I do ken this.” He lifted his hands to her chin, tilting her face to his. “I ken that our union wasnae a mistake.”

Nora couldn't decide whether his words or touch surprised her more. But she was well aware that the combination was lethal. What he said made her heart happy, and his touch... it made her feel in ways she didn'tunderstand.

Jonan stood suddenly, looking behind her. “Callan is signaling for me. I must leave. It must be of utmost importance.”

“I understand,” Nora said quietly.

“Milady! Congratulations!” Mae squealed, look lovely in a simple day dress.

“Thank you!” Nora beamed.

“Och, Milady,” Mae’s excitement was clear as she slipped into a chair beside her.

“Milaird couldnae take his eyes off ye when ye entered. I know it because I watched him.” She said with a smile.

Nora found herself blushing at the girl’s words. “I always dreamed of the day I will wed.” Mae grinned. “I would do the most exciting things to keep me husband interested.” Her voice sounded dreamy.

Did one have to keep a husband interested?

“I shall be at yer chambers on the morrow, milady. Bright and early!”

“Thank you, Mae.” Nora waved goodbye.

Mae was gone, but Nora could still hear her words as she watched the sun set over thehappy clan.

What did she know about keeping a man interested?
