“We?” Jonan arched a brow. Finally, he understood why everyone was present.

She nodded eagerly. “Well, it was my idea,” Amelia said guiltily, but they all agreed. “If you would please, milaird, we would like to wash the keep.”

“It will be done as you wish.”

A collective sigh echoed in the room and Jonan looked to Callan whose eyes danced with amusement.

“What will ye need?” he asked. “When do ye wish to begin?”

“Well, the day is young still. Perhaps we could do it today?”

“Please, Da?”

Jonan nodded. “Aye, ye may.”

Amelia beamed at him. Jonan knew he'd found a treasure when her face melted into a smile. Her eyes sparkled with excitement, and now that he could see her in the light, he wanted nothing more than to be with her.

This is what she looks like when she is happy. Her face was stunning.Blood rushed to his cheeks as he averted his gaze from her, instead focusing on Callan.

“Aye, the keep would look better with some cleanin’. Great plan, milady,” he complimented Amelia. “Perhaps we shall follow the women and see these soaps and candles they speak of?”

Amelia and Leah nodded. “If you are not too busy, my lord,” Amelia added.

“I will ne’er understand women,” Callan whispered to him as they walked to the kitchen behind the ladies.

Jonan couldn't stop smiling. He admired Amelia's desire to make things better.

He decided that a little change would be beneficial. Since he was a boy, the keep had had the same appearance. Many lairds had passed through thesecorridors, many plans had been made within those walls thatchangedthe fate of the clan.

“Milaird,” Amelia drew Jonan’s attention to the soap and candles; the kitchen smelled strongly of wildflowers.

“Is that lavender?” Callan asked.

“Correct!” Leah beamed.

“My lord,” Amelia’s tone was once again, nervous. “We would need quite a bit of water to wash all the floors and windows,” she told him.

Jonan now understood why they were all so hesitant to ask. They would require more water than was normally brought to the keep.

“Gather ten men with pitchers to bring water to Lady McKay,” he told Callan.

Jonan’s eyes fell back on Amelia’s and he caught her smiling. She and Leah were excitedly making plans.

“If ye need anythin’ else, I will be in me study.”

“Thank ye, father!” Leah jumped and shouted. She was happy and that only made him happier. Everything was going well; for the clan, for him, and for his daughter. AndAmelia was the link between all of them.

Thank ye, Amelia.
