Chapter Twenty-Four

Blair

“What?” Blair breathed, not understanding what was going on or why Aindreas believed she was marrying Daniel. Just this morn, she had declined, and there had been no audience to speak of to inform Aindreas, at least of what she knew. “I don’t—“

“Please,” Aindreas whispered, tilting his head back and gazing up at her, his eyes glimmering with desperation. “I know I haven’t treated ye well. I know I’ve been a complete bastard, but I-I—“ Aindreas shook his head, “I’m so sorry, Blair. Can’t ye ever forgive me? I love ye. I love ye so much it feels as if my heart will burst.”

Blair didn’t know if it was his father’s death making him act this way. She had never seen Aindreas so undone, so broken. Her arms wrapped around him, holding him close to her as her fingers pushed his hair from his forehead. He leaned into her touch.

“I’m not marrying Daniel,” she said, watching his eyes widen in surprise. She smiled sadly. “I declined his proposal.”

Aindreas slowly stood, his eyes never leaving hers. “But my aunt she told me—“

Blair shook her head. “He told me to think on it, but I fear I cannot.” She sighed and pushed her hair away from her face as she turned her gaze away from Aindreas. “Because I am in love with another.”

She felt Aindreas’s hands tug her forward. His fingers grabbed her chin, gently pulling her gaze back to him. He was so close. His eyes were filled with hope as they gazed upon her. “In love with who?” he breathed, a slight tremble in his voice.

Blair licked her bottom lip, her belly twisting with desire at the soft gasp escaping Aindreas’s lips. Her gaze lingered on his mouth, wishing they were on her once more. His arm wrapped around her waist, and he closed the minimal distance between them.

“In love with who, Blair?” he repeated his voice louder and more commanding, sounding like the laird he was to be.

“Ye,” she breathed, unable to take her gaze off him. “I could never love another man.”

Her bottom lip trembled as her thoughts turned to Sorcha and Aindreas’s upcoming wedding. Her eyes burned with unshed tears. She took a step back, knowing they needed to make distance, but Aindreas’s grip tightened.

“I was going to leave this morn before he asked me.”

Aindreas’s brow furrowed. His lips parted, but she continued before he could say anything.

“I couldn’t bear living at Castle Lachlan, living under the same roof as ye while married to yer cousin. It would break me, Aindreas. It would destroy me.” She sniffed and wiped the tears from her eyes. “It’s no fair for nae one, and therefore I must go. ‘Tis for the—“

Her words were silenced by Aindreas’s mouth. His kisses swallowed anything she wanted to say. He pulled her close until she was flush against him. All she could feel were his strong arms around her and his lips upon her mouth. His tongue stroked along her bottom lip, eliciting a gasp as his front ground against her, stoking the fires that lay beneath.

Abandoning all caution, she wrapped her arms around his neck, her tongue entering his mouth, twining around him. He growled low in his throat, which only spurred her on even more. Her leg lifted, and he grabbed it, holding it close to his hip while grinding against her once more. She gasped, tossing back her head and gazing up at him. Aindreas burrowed his hand into her locks, his other hand on her leg, sliding up to grip her bottom.

“I want ye, Blair,” Aindreas whispered against her lips. “I need ye.”

She nodded while caressing his cheek. “I need ye, too,” she whispered before reclaiming his mouth.

Aindreas groaned, and they stumbled backward, nearly tripping over the leaves and moss covering the earthen floor. Blair felt something hard dig into her back, and out of the corner of her eye, she realized she was braced against a tree. She gasped, her attentions returning to Aindreas as he pressed his body against her. His hands pushed at her skirts, searching for something lying beneath. His mouth traveled down her throat. Shivers rippled down her spine as she felt his teeth graze against the sensitive part of her nape, and she clutched him tighter, feeling that if she didn’t, she would no longer be able to stand.

Her face flushed as she felt his hand graze against her thigh. Her skirts were nearly to her waist, and she looked around, hoping no one was in the area. All she could hear was Aindreas’s breath and the twittering of the birds above them.

“Blair,” Aindreas murmured before kissing the hollow of her throat.

He pulled away, his knees dropping to the ground, his hands holding up her skirts, exposing her womanhood. Blair quickly covered herself, her eyes wide with both shock and worry. “Aindreas,” she whispered harshly, “maybe we should go back.”

“Nonsense,” Aindreas whispered, his hands lacing with hers and gently pulling her away. She could feel the heat of his mouth near her sensitive flesh. “Nae one is here, Blair.”

Before she could say anything, she felt his mouth against her, his tongue searching for something she didn’t know. She gasped, her back arching when he found it, and she released his hands. Her fingers dug into his hair, holding him there as his tongue worked its magic, stroking her fires, making her soar higher. She moaned, her stomach twisting with a desire she had never felt before. Blair worried what it meant. She had never lain with a man. She had never felt so exposed before, so undone, and yet she trusted Aindreas.

Her fingers in his hair tightened as she felt herself spiraling closer to something she did not know. She felt her face heat and wanted to cover it. Her voice grew louder, and she clamped a hand over it, feeling embarrassed by the whimper in her tone.

Before she could reach whatever it was she was soaring towards, Aindreas quickly stood, grabbing her waist and spinning her around. “Apologies, Blair, I fear I cannot wait any longer,” he breathed against her ear, sending chills through her. His hands tugged at her dress, and she helped him pull it over her head before reaching for his tartan and quickly undoing it. She chuckled as he fumbled with her corset, his fingers tugging aimlessly at the strings until finally, she stood in her shift.

Aindreas pressed her against the tree, and her eyes widened, feeling his hard length pushing against her bottom. He groaned, his hands sliding her shift up, his calloused palms stroking her bottom, her hip, her thighs. She leaned into him, yearning for more of his touch. He kissed her nape, moaning lightly into her ear.

“Yer so beautiful.”
