"We have to leave soon," he said quietly, his voice laced with a hint of sadness.

I laid my head over his chest and tried to relax. I felt so guilty, even as my body continued to thrum in the aftermath of our indescribable night together. It was all very overwhelming.

He shifted his hips, and I moaned brokenly as his cock slipped out of me. Our fluids dripped out down my thighs and onto his hips, and Joon groaned deep in his throat.

I propped my head on his chest and looked over his still flushed face. He was so handsome.

"Okay, my puppies!" Lex sang as she burst into the room. She gasped dramatically, placing a hand on her heart. "Oh! And what do we have here?" She moved her eyes over our very naked and sweaty bodies.

"What the fuck?" Joon yelled, quickly moving me behind him and shielding me from the siren's view. A loud growl ripped through him, and he bared his teeth.

I placed my hand on his shoulder and laughed. "That's Lex," I said.

Lex still wore the same body as the previous night, elvish features with long, golden hair and a striking figure. She smiled at the Alpha and swished her robes at him. Joon narrowed his eyes, then his muscles relaxed.

"I'm sorry," he said. "I forgot what you looked like."

"Well, I came to yell at you. But after catching the two of you like this, I don't know if I have the heart to ruin such aninterestingmorning," Lex said, practically dancing across the room and snuggling up to my still very naked body. I giggled and threw my arms over the siren’s slight shoulders despite feeling awkward wrapped in only a blanket.

Joon groaned and got up, pulling on his pants.

"Why were you going to yell at us?" I asked.

"Not you, silly. Him," Lex said, pointing a long finger at the Alpha. "I had a plan last night, you know! I was going to kiss your wolf friend and knock her out so Tzidal and I could get to safety before you went all feral on her. You scared the shit out of me jumping out of the closet like that, you asshole.”

"I'm sorry, but can you put the old face back on?" Joon asked. "It's hard to talk to you like a friend when you look like a stranger." Lex huffed, a gentle pout on her perfect lips. "You don't have to," Joon groaned. "I just find comfort in familiar faces, and this is...different."

Lex smiled sweetly and stood up, her appearance melting away like rain down a windowpane. Her face drifted back into the young man I had met in the forest. Lex stepped toward the Alpha and placed a quick kiss on his cheek.

"We don't want to upset our big, bad wolf. Do we?" he cooed, turning to look at me. "He finds comfort in my beautiful face.”

"That's not what I said," Joon mumbled.

Lex was already dancing his way out the door, purposefully ignoring the Alpha. Joon swung it shut behind him, then moved toward me, nervous lines etched between his eyes.

"Omega," he said in a loud, firm voice. He paused, then pushed out a deep sigh, letting his shoulders relax and slump a bit. "Tzidal," he said softly, his dark eyes dancing all over my face.

My heart fluttered at the way his mouth held my name.

He stood at the foot of the bed, not quite meeting my eyes. He opened his mouth to speak but quickly closed it. I was suddenly nervous, my mind working over several possibilities as silence reigned between us.

Maybe he regretted our night together.

Maybe he wanted to talk about my hasty reaction to him marking me.

Or maybe he wanted to pretend none of this had happened.

Either way, my stomach filled with dread. I wrapped the blanket tighter around my shoulders, feeling vulnerable and stupid, waiting for him to speak.

Joon's eyes flashed up to mine for a quick moment, then he bent down and grabbed my clothes, handing them to me. "We should get going," he said, clearing his throat. "We have a long way to go before the cursed land, and we need to get supplies to prepare."

I pulled my shirt on, watching as he walked out the door.

Regret lanced my chest. I wondered if he hated me for so clearly rejecting him. I hadn't meant to react so strongly. After all, he had sucked and licked at my neck all night. But for some reason, in the light of day, it felt different. It was like all the passion had melted away, and I was stuck with the realization that I had laid with an Alpha that wasn't my mate.

Thick, sour guilt flooded my mouth.

I felt guilty for betraying Korban.
