"I doubt we'll see them before morning." Lex stretched out, his stomach growling.

"Why don't you eat?" Blue asked.

Lex glanced at the punga, his lips curling in disgust. We had stripped most of it clean, but Joon and I were careful not to finish it should the omegas get hungry again later.

"I don't do bear," Lex said with an edge of snark in his voice.

"I know." Blue laughed. "I meant, why don't you go out and get something…or someone…to eat."

"You know?" The siren's eyes widened, and I had to agree. Telling the horrors of the beasts outside of the villages wasn't something alphas or even betas tended to share with sensitive omegas.

"Yes," Blue gave him a pointed look as if the hunting habits of sirens were common knowledge. "When I was a pup, we had a siren that occasionally came through our village. She was nice and never harmed any of our pack, but we were always warned about her…diet."

I leaned forward, capturing his attention. "You knew what his kind ate," I motioned to Lex, "and it still didn't scare you enough to keep your distance?" I also wanted to point out the ridiculousness of a village banning alphas while welcoming a siren, but I kept that to myself.

Blue shrugged, biting the bottom of his lip to keep his smile from consuming his whole face. I laughed at the brazenness of the omegas in my company. I never thought of their kind as fearless, but between Blue and Tzidal, they were proving me very wrong.

Lex stretched out on the other side of Blue, tucking his hands behind his head and closing his eyes. A contented hum left the siren's lips as the sun started to set, the sky burning orange and pink.

Silence fell, and Blue grew restless, his scent laced with unease. He shuffled a bit as if having trouble getting comfortable. I wondered if he maybe needed a nest or somewhere proper to sleep, but I didn't have anything to provide that kind of comfort.

"Alpha," he whispered, running his fingers along the hem of his shirt. "Alpha Byriel?"

I leaned in, loving the way he said my name, and the fact that he addressed me formally thrilled my wolf to no end. My beast inched forward, desperate to hear his voice again.

"I'm sorry I refused to take you to my village," he whispered. "My pack is very strict about keeping alphas out. But you were so nice to me at the river," he swallowed hard, "not forcing me to tell you where my village was, and I just…" he shook his head, seeming to struggle to find the right words. "Thank you."

"I understand." I wanted to touch him and scent him. "It's smart to be cautious of unknown wolves. You shouldn't trust them. Even the nice ones." I smiled, and his pale skin warmed a soft pink.

"Does that mean I shouldn't trust you?" he asked playfully, scrunching the bridge of his nose.

I smiled wide, prepared to tell him I wouldn't hurt a pixie, but my expression fell just as quickly. It would be a fierce lie, and my tongue would surely slice itself open if I dared to tell someone so kind something so false.

"Are you okay?" Blue asked, inching closer.

He reached out, hesitating for a brief movement, before placing a small, pale hand on my arm. The feel of his velvety, white skin on mine sent an electric desire straight through me. My cock leapt to life, and my jaw tensed.

I looked over Blue's sweet expression, my eyes falling to the soft curve of his upper lip. His pout looked like a bow. Slowly, he captured his bottom lip between his teeth, and my wolf growled possessively. I squeezed my hands together to keep them in place.

Lex sat up and leaned all the way forward, pulling my attention from Blue. The siren gave me a teasing smirk. His eyes were so wild with excitement, making it clear he could taste my conflicted lust in the air.

Fucking sirens.

Ignoring the still smiling siren, I looked at Blue. "How did you get this?" I asked, motioning to the twist of purple that fell next to his ear.

He touched the lock, his hands almost brushing mine. His delicate blue-ish cheeks dusted the softest shade of pink, and he bit that bottom lip again. The backdrop of thick trees and grass made his colors even more vivid. Pink, blue, purple, with big, green eyes. He was a tiny rainbow in a sea of green.

"I was born with it." He looked at his lap, his submissive mannerisms calling to my beast.

The distant rumble of an unknown voice made me jump to my feet. Lex quickly followed.

"What—"

I held up a finger, silencing Blue. He immediately went quiet, his bright eyes moving all around the trees in the distance.

I scented the air. "It's an alpha."

Lex nodded. "I think he's alone," he purred, his pointed teeth on display.
