"We can't drop down," Joon said, pulling me away from Lex and tucking me under his arm. He was so warm. "It's too steep and will put us practically on top of them. You know this land," he said to Byriel. "Is there an easy way down?"

"I haven't been this close to the Black River in so many years. But, if my memory serves me, there should be a gradual decline in the land on the far west side of Ossory." He gave Joon a sympathetic look. "But there's a lot of mountains between here and there."

Joon shook his head, holding me a little tighter. "Depending on how uneven the terrain is, that could easily add a month to our trip."

"Did you see the narrow path along the ledge?" Byriel asked.

Joon nodded, pressing his nose into my hair and inhaling deeply before answering. "Unfortunately, I think that's the fastest route. It'll put us on the other side of the camp. We just have to hope no one sees us."

"What path?" I asked.

Byriel leaned toward me to answer, keeping his voice soft. "There was a ledge cut in the rock face. It looked wide enough to travel on."

"And the land on the other side appears to slope down," Joon said.

Byriel nodded. "It will be the most direct path, but we must be very quiet." He eyed me, then Blue. But my eyes cut straight to Lex, knowing damn well we wouldn't be the problem.

"No talking," Joon snapped, cutting Lex a stony glare. "Zero talking. Not even a whisper. They will hear it, and I don't know if they have bows."

Lex scoffed, then bared his pointy teeth. "How about I drop down and kill them all? Then we can stroll through as leisurely as we like."

"Can you do that?" Blue asked, eyes wide and mouth open.

"No," Joon said forcefully. "He can't."

Lex looked at my mate with big, offended eyes. A hand pressed to his chest. "How dare you." His tone was dramatic, and Blue smiled wide.

"You are very strong, siren," Byriel said. "I believe you could easily handle three or four alphas on your own. But a few dozen?" He paused, shaking his head.

"Like hell!" Lex cocked his head and leaned back as if making room for his massive ego to fit between us. "Just because you can't handle yourself in a fight doesn't mean I'm useless."

Joon snorted, not the least bit interested in his challenge. "I hope to the Moon they all have bows, and they take out your shimmering, obnoxious ass first."

"I'm not against showing you how vicious I can be." Lex flashed his teeth at my mate, but Joon only chuckled.

"I've known you too long to be tempted by your flirty threats." Joon snorted.

"Can you really…kill…that many alphas at once?" Blue whispered, looking at Lex with so much awe.

"I am capable of many things, my little sweetie," Lex smirked, tickling under Blue's chin.

"Just once, I'd love to see you humble," Joon groaned.

"Truly fierce beings are beyond humble opinions of themselves," Lex winked. "We're too honest to be forced to submit to lowly thoughts."

Byriel let out a quiet, rumbling laugh. "Well put, siren."

"Well," I said. "If we're all done being very impressed with ourselves, perhaps we should head that way. It would be best to do this before the sun comes up.

"I agree," Joon sighed, standing up. "But if Lex utters a single word, I'm pushing him down the mountain."

Lex smirked. "Don't think I won't take you with me, big boy."
