He was mine.

I moved over his scratches, cleaning them thoroughly and allowing myself to pull in all of his beautiful flavor. Blue's scent was so delicate and clean, but it somehow still filled my whole body with a flood of sugar that made my teeth hurt. It was electrifying and soothing at the same time.

My body thrummed with sensation, and I squeezed my eyes shut tight as my fangs lengthened involuntarily. I needed to stop, but I couldn't.

"Does that really heal wounds faster?" Lex scrunched up his nose, watching me work. "Or do Alphas just have a blood-sucker fetish?"

I narrowed my eyes at the siren, wishing the fall had killed him.

Blue kept his hypnotic eyes on the ground, frozen as I continued. His wounds were clean, but the urge to continue touching him was too fierce. My tongue flicked over the side of his little finger, and he leaned away from me. He pressed his nose into Lex's arm as a slip of a whimper left his lips. I instantly forced myself to stop, removing my hands from his body.

He was scared, and I was making it worse.

As carefully as I could, I pulled the sleeve back down his arm, then sat as far away from the omega as the small space would allow, my feet resting just next to his.

I needed to get control of myself. I hated feeling so out of control, but the reckless feelings Blue pulled from me felt too good.

Blue kept his face hidden behind Lex's arm, unable to see my internal struggle. The siren's big, grey eyes moved to mine, and he cocked his head to the side. Inhaling the air around him, Lex glanced at Blue, then back to me.

My eyes pulsed red, and Lex smirked.

"I think I'm going to head up and check out the camp." The siren stood up, smoothing down the front of his robes. "I should eat."

Blue's scent lingered on my tongue, and my wolf thrilled at the idea of being alone with the defenseless omega, but my mind was still fully intact.

I couldn't be alone with him.

I would hurt him.

I just knew it.

"You just ate," I snarled, jumping to my feet. The second the words left my mouth, I froze and listened carefully for any sound of movement. I hadn't meant to be so loud.

Lex dragged his hand down through the air—just like I had done to him—motioning for me to be quiet. I closed the space between us, wanting to grab the siren and force him to sit back down.

"You just ate," I whispered, leaning down a bit to look him hard in the eyes. "Coming and going from here is a bad idea. They might see you. Attack you. Follow you to Blue. It's not smart." I tried to sound calm and rational, but judging from the smile pulling hard at one side of Lex's mouth, my desperation was far too clear.

"Nah," Lex shook his head, his eyes flickering to Blue, "I think I'm in the mood for a midnight snack, and these mutts just smell too damn good."

The siren swished around me, and I spun, grabbing his arm and jerking him to me. "Stay," I whispered low, forcing every bit of angry Alpha into my voice. I knew it wouldn't affect him, not like an Omega, but I was desperate.

Lex laughed, then jerked his arm free. "Have fun," he winked.

Then he was gone.

He was fucking gone, moving quickly up and out, away from us. I stared at the dark boulders and deep shadows, willing him to return.

Blue shifted behind me, and my wolf let out a slow, hungry growl. My claws were jagged and heavy, and my fangs slipped into painful points.

"Alpha Byriel?"

I tipped my chin up and said a quick, silent prayer, begging the Moon to give me control. I wasn't a mindless beast. I wouldn't force myself on an unmated omega.

I was civilized.

I had self-control.

I had a raging hard-on that made it so hard to think straight.
