The alpha's eyes went wide, but he quickly reined in his shock. "You have to."

"I know." I stole another glance at my mate.

"I'll watch her," Kenji said. "I'll stay near your mate and your other omega. I'll watch them, and, once I can, I'll get them to safety. I'm lowly enough that no one will notice my absence. Things are too unhinged right now for anyone to really care."

"The siren too," I said, motioning behind me.

Kenji glanced down at Lex. "Really?" His nose twitched in disgust.

"Yes, fucking really," I snapped. "He's important to this cause."

He was important to Tzidal, and that was all that mattered.

"The siren too." Kenji nodded, surrendering to my command.

"Madra," I said softly, looking hard into Kenji's eyes. "If I don't come back, take them all to Madra. My mate has family there."

He nodded. "I'll get them to Madra."

I extended my hand, needing to shake his, to feel the truth in his words. And he quickly grabbed it, giving me a fierce look to seal his promise.

"In the palace," Kenji said, dropping my hand. "If you are able, try to find out where the gate is. We don't know much about it other than it exists, but the letters we've interceded from Strayton's people say it's important."

"Strayton mentioned a gate."

"Yeah?" He shifted his feet at that information, moving a little closer. "This is good. Maybe we can find out where it is and what it is. Based on the way Strayton has talked about it, it could be the difference between her taking the throne from her father or surrendering her reign to another more deserving wolf. And trust me, no one will survive under her rule."

"Theo!" Strayton yelled. "I need you. It's time to go."

"Coming, my Lady," I yelled, giving Kenji a hard look. "Keep my mate safe, or you will fucking answer to me. Understand?"

Kenji gave a quick nod and placed a hand over his heart. "I promise."

I left him, my eyes flickering to Tzidal. Strayton smiled as I approached, then she turned to her guard. "I want these two locked up." She pointed at Tzidal and Blue. My chest tightened, and claws extended.

"And I need the commander of my father's guards here now!" she commanded to no one in particular.

"Lady Strayton," Jonelle was suddenly at my side, "I am headed to Ossory now. It would be my honor to escort them for you."

"That's fine," Strayton nodded, seeming to really not care.

"Kenji!" Jonelle yelled out, motioning for the young alpha to escort the omegas. I resisted the urge to turn and watch Tzidal walk away from me. My wolf spiraled, whimpered, and wailed as the distance between my mate and I grew.

"Theo," Strayton's voice snapped my attention back to her.

Slowly, she moved toward me, pushing into my space. I looked down into her face, her lids hooded with lust and her lips wet as she repeatedly licked them. She whispered, her voice seductive and husky, "You have something I want, and I'm done waiting."

Into The Woods

Tzidal

I followed the alpha,Kenji, to the other side of the camp. I didn't want to trust him, but Joon did nothing to stop him when Jonelle handed us over. I could only assume he was an ally…or at least I hoped.

The alpha stopped just in front of a crumpled figure on the ground. A pained gasp left Blue's lips about a second before I realized who it was.

Lex.
