“Talk later?” I ask.

The conversation I need to have with Jessika requires privacy, and lots of it. If my monster is the type to slink around the rooms of other women, I need to know now, in case he returns.

ChapterSix

As soon as Mr. Roberts closes the coffee shop and dismisses us, I drag Jessika out through the front door. The sun has already set with street lights illuminating the busy road. Its rush hour with two lanes of slow traffic that fill the air with exhaust fumes.

“Where are we going?” she asks.

“You and I need to talk,” I say from between clenched teeth.

“But I really want to go home…” Her voice trails off.

My lips tighten into a thin line. I know exactly why she’s rushing back to her apartment. Hell, I’d do the same if I had an attentive man with tentacles to drive me to pleasure beyond imagination. The question is, how many women did the monster visit at night?

“Listen.” I duck down toward her ear, making sure none of the passersby can overhear us. “That meditation audio you sent me kind of worked.”

Jessika grins. “What have you named him?”

My brows furrow. “What do you mean?”

“Come on.” She gives me a gentle nudge in the ribs. “The morning after I did it, I attracted Neil. He’s now a writer and just signed his first contract with a big publisher, but he’s waiting for the money to come through.”

“Wait, what?” I say.

She raises a shoulder. “That’s the only reason I’m putting up with Mr. Roberts’s bullshit.”

One foot stumbles over the other, and I have to hold myself steady against a lamp post. I know I’m sleep-deprived but I could have sworn she mentioned tentacles. And a creature from another dimension couldn’t get a publishing contract. Could they? I’m so confused.

“You attracted a human?” I ask, keeping my voice low.

Jessika gazes up at me, her brows pulling together. “Sorry, what?”

“Um…” I shake my head, trying to explain what happened the night before in a way that would make sense.

Ryan, one of the other baristas, jogs up to us, his cheeks flushed. “Hi guys, what did I miss?”

Jessika glances from Ryan to me, her face a mask of neutrality. I wrap my arms around my middle and grimace. It’s bad enough telling one person I was pleasured all night by a tentacle monster who feasted on my pussy like it was a banquet. There’s no way I can divulge that information to two.

“I was just telling Jess about a powerful dream I had.”

Ryan waggles his brows. “Do tell.”

“Would you believe I forgot it?” I say with a high-pitched giggle.

She places a hand on my arm. “Are you alright?”

“Yeah.” I run a hand through my curls. “Just ignore me, alright?”

Without another word, I break into a jog, leaving Ryan and Jessika at the corner, probably staring at my back and wondering if I’ve gone mad.

Mr. Roberts has locked the front door already, so I have to jog around the back of the building and enter through the security door. As I bound up the stairs, I come to a few conclusions:

One, the man Jessika attracted might not be a tentacle monster.

Two, there’s no way the monster who tended to me all night long was also pleasuring Jessika.

Three, before I go any further with the monster, I need to see his face.
