“Thank you.” I blink away the tears, letting them roll down my face.

“Your face is leaking.” He places the tip of one tentacle on my face and gathers up the moisture.

“It’s called crying, and the liquid is called tears.” I cough away the last of the sulphuric air and try not to react as he retracts the tentacle with my tears. “That atmosphere irritated my eyes and I was so scared.”

He reels me closer, so I hover a mere ten feet away from where he stands. With the moonlight shining on him so brightly, I can make out some of the details on his face. Maybe the light is playing tricks on me or maybe it’s the moonlight, but I can’t believe my eyes. Part of me had expected to see a blank visage without eyes or a mouth or a nose, but he has the same kind of features as any human.

Arched brows, high cheekbones, and a perfectly straight nose. His mouth is wide—not monstrously so, and his lips are sensual and full. I squint, looking for signs of hair but the light isn’t the best. He’s either bald or it’s slicked back.

I shake my head. Why am I checking out a monster when I should be trying to escape?

“Are you still afraid?” he asks in that deep, sonorous voice.

“Yes,” I whisper from behind my tentacle gag. “I’m still scared.”

“I know exactly what you need,” he says.

“What’s that?” A shiver runs down my spine, but the sensation isn’t entirely unpleasant. When the feeling settles between my legs, I squeeze my thighs together and frown. I cannot be getting aroused.

Instead of replying, he carries me across the room, pulls back the blankets, and lays me on the bed. I’m about to ask what he’s doing, but then he pulls the covers over my body and gives me a gentle pat.

Is this his way of apologizing for interrupting my sleep and trying to abduct me?

He withdraws the tentacles, leaving me alone in the bed, and then he backs to the corner of the room.

My heart sinks a few inches from its resting place. I’m not exactly disappointed, and I really do want him to leave, but I’m still curious about why the monster visited me of all people.

The tentacles shorten until they disappear within his torso, leaving him just an extraordinarily tall man made of shadows.

This is for the best, I tell myself. I can go back to sleep and forget that I was ever the victim of a monster. And by the time I wake up, I could dismiss the debacle as a vivid dream.

“Thank you,” I say.

“I haven’t done anything yet,” he replies with a chuckle as dark as his outline.

I bolt up, letting the sheets slide down my breasts. “But you said you knew what I needed.”

“Yes,” he replies and walks around the bed.

“What?”

“You need comfort, calm…” His voice trails off, leaving the rest of his sentence unsaid.

My breath catches. “And what else?”

“Cuddles and caresses.” He stands on the other side of the bed and pulls back the covers.

My eyes widen as he lowers himself into the bed and makes the mattress dip.

“What the hell are you doing?” I screech.

“Shhhh…” A tentacle coils around my thigh and slithers toward my pussy.

I freeze, my jaw dropping. This is unexpected. It’s been a while, and I’m reluctant to refuse pleasure. “Excuse me?”

“Relax, my mate,” he says in a voice so deep and hypnotic that I feel it in every fiber of my being.

My muscles obey his command, and I find myself slumping against the headboard. another tentacle snakes around my ankles and pulls me down, so I lie flat on my back.
