"How did you get in here?" I keep yelling at her, but her face expresses nothing but joy.

"Maria let me in." Cameron reaches out to give me a kiss, but I pull away. "She knows me since she saw me with you before. I told her I wanted to surprise you."

I have to speak to Maria. She shouldn't be so trusting.

"Cameron, get out of here," I bark, pulling back when she tries to place her hands on my shirt.

"Oh, you're angry because you haven’t been laid for a long time," she murmurs in response, ignoring my irritation.

"Cameron, stop it." I push her hands away and take a step back. "I didn't respond to you. Does that mean I want to see you?"

To be more precise, I blocked her number after she started sending me naked pictures. I didn't want Serena to accidentally see them.

I don't need Cameron anymore. And even now, when she’s wearing nothing but lingerie, I feel nothing, not even a hint of desire. The only girl I want wears no makeup, a high ponytail, and oversized sweatshirts. And still, she's the most beautiful creature in the whole world.

"Is that because of that weirdo who was tutoring you?" she asks angrily, crossing her arms over her chest. "Is that another book you need to read to make her happy?"

I take a step closer and look down at her, restraining the urge to strangle her.

"Call her that one more time, and you're dead," I threaten, speaking through clenched teeth.

Her face changes from angry to terrified in a second when she realizes how serious I am.

"I want you to disappear before I get out of the shower." I grab fresh clothes and walk into the bathroom, locking it in case she dares to enter.

Cameron might be slutty, but she isn't stupid. That's why when I come out after not more than five minutes in the bathroom, she's not in my room anymore.

Chapter Fifteen

Serena

The phone practically slips out of my hands. I take a seat on a chair next to the cash desk not to fall myself. It's getting harder to breathe.

"Honey, what's wrong? You're so pale," Sam says when she looks at me. She comes closer to check on me. "Are you okay? What's wrong?" she persists when I keep silent.

No, I'm not okay,I want to say, to scream, but the words are stuck in my throat.

"Dominic..." is the only thing I manage to say.

I called during my lunch to tell him that everything's okay. He asked me to call when I got to the store, but I forgot. But why did he ask me to do that if he knew that Cameron was going to come?

She picked up his phone, telling me that he was in the shower. I heard the running water. I didn’t believe her at first, but she sent me a photo of her lying on Dominic's bed in sexy red lingerie.

It could be anyone's bed or an old photo, but the book I gave him for Christmas was lying right on the bedside table next to her. She took a picture so I could see it on purpose.

Maybe he didn't know she was coming, I tell myself, even though I know that's ridiculous. They probably had that arranged in advance, and now they're both laughing at me.

How could he do this to me after everything that happened between us?

Even if he didn't know in advance, why did he let her in? And, moreover, let her undress in his bedroom and go take a shower. Had they had sex already?

Too many thoughts run through my head simultaneously, and I feel like I'm getting sick.

"What happened?" Sam asks once again, and I show her the photo, unable to speak. "Is that—?" she asks after a pause but stops, realizing what she’s seeing. Sam helped me pick up the book for Dominic, and she's smart enough to understand what's going on.

"You should go home," she offers, but I shake my head. My head is spinning, and I swear I'm gonna pass out right now if I stand up.

"I'm not going to take his car anywhere," I say, barely audibly, looking into the abyss.
