"But I will say no anyway." I raise my voice, interrupting him. "And now, please let me enjoy my breakfast while you go back to your laptop; I don't mind."

I take a sip of coffee and turn to face the window, trying to make him realize that our conversation is over.

Christopher doesn't say a word, but I can still feel his gaze on my skin. And then he silently turns back to his computer, for the first time since we met without starting an arguing battle with me.

But for some reason, I don't feel relieved.

Chapter Seven

Michelle

"Wow," I exhale loudly and involuntarily, looking around. We're standing at the hall of Christopher's new hotel, the one I made the design for. "I didn't expect it to be this big."

It was supposed to be a small family inn, while now it looks like an actual hotel, from a hotel chain like Cold's, even though the design is nothing like others.

When I look at Christopher, I realize that he was staring at me all this time, analyzing my reaction. I feel my cheeks blush a little. Am I shy? Next to Christopher? After everything we've been through, seriously?

I look around again, simply to avoid his gaze. Luckily, it's a lot more to see in here than a hallway.

I have to see every single room. They are all different; all twelve suites have a unique design.

"You made it," Christopher says, breaking the silence and coming closer to me.

"Well, not exactly me," I respond, unable to hide a smile from how proud I am.

"You made it," he repeats and takes one more step. "Not with your hands, of course, but with your incredibly wild fantasy and sharp mind."

I smile even wider, looking at him, feeling my cheeks get even hotter.

"I thought the hall would be too big," I say, reminding myself that I told Cristopher to leave the one that was before the renovation to make extra space for the kitchen. In that case, he didn't have to build another extension, which could save him a lot of money and time. "I'm glad you didn't listen to me."

I wonder how tall he is. He's a head taller than me when I'm wearing heels, but now I'm wearing flat boots, so I have to throw my head back a little to look into his eyes. His beautiful, dark-brown eyes always seem black when he looks at me like this.

I perfectly understand why women fall for this man. Honestly, I've never seen anyone as gorgeous as Christopher Cold. Moreover, he's also intelligent. Bantering with him was my favorite time of day. I'm gonna miss our discussions...

No, no, no, I'm not gonna agree to another job offer with this man.

"Michelle, I want to tell you something," he says, his voice low, and his gaze examines my face, from my eyes down to my lips. I feel like I can't breathe. Is he...going to kiss me? But he knows that I'm engaged. I mean, I’m not anymore, but he doesn't know that.

Does he?

I touch my finger searching for the ring and remind myself that it's not there anymore. I took it off and threw it into Michael's face the day after I saw those pictures.

My gaze falls onto Christopher's lips, and I involuntarily start to imagine how would it be to feel them on mine. Is he a good kisser? He's gorgeous, and even if he didn’t even know how to kiss, women would fall at his feet anyway.

Who am I fooling? He's probably the best kisser of all.

I swallow.

"Christopher!" someone yells from behind us, and we turn toward the entrance. "I can't believe you're here!"

A tall, dark-haired young woman enters the building, smiling joyfully at him. Christopher steps away from me, heading in her direction. She starts running and throws herself into his arms. To my surprise, Christopher opens his arms as well for a big hug.

My heart goes to my heels when I see it. Yes, I've seen him with other women before, but he never hugged them, at least not in front of me. Moreover, he never even smiled at them, while now he’s grinning joyfully, absolutely happy to see her.

Who is she? His schoolmate? His first love?

Jealousy comes to me unexpectedly as I watch these two hug each other. Seems like Christopher has already forgotten about me.
