We honeymooned in Singapore. Ate exotic food and drank lots of wine. We walked hand in hand along Temple Street, the market stalls so vibrant. I bought a little Chinese styled dress for my niece. Michael bought a snow globe with the Merlion inside.

It was hot.

We sat by the pool and drank Piña Coladas. Then switched to Singapore Slings.

At night we watched the fireworks as Singapore celebrated their liberty.

We found a cute little dress shop for pregnant women in an underground mall halfway between Raffles and Suntec City. Michael encouraged me to try something on.

The Asian girl who served me placed a rounded cushion under the top I tried on, imitating pregnancy. I looked at myself in the mirror and wondered if that would ever be me.

Michael bought the top and two dresses.

“Forward planning,” he whispered when I raised my eyebrows at him.

We soaked up the sun. We made love every evening and morning. We talked until we fell asleep wrapped up in each others’ arms.

And I thought, perhaps, my life was a dream.

But it was a dream I never wanted to wake from.
