“Not at the moment, thanks.”

“If you think of anything you’d like to know, just ask. Time for bed; run along and get ready and I’ll be up to tuck you in!” He kept his tone light and playful.

“Yes,Daddy!” she responded, throwing him a teasing look she left the room. The word Daddy went straight to his cock. Her behaviour mirroredhisPenny’s in every way.

Chapter Six

Saturday dawned fair. As promised Allie arrived promptly to drive Penny over to their father’s. David told her he would see her at Clare and Allie’s later that evening. He was going to take advantage of her absence to work on their business, which had been neglected out of necessity since Penny had arrived, or disappeared depending on how one looked at it. She sighed heavily.

“What’s up?” her sister asked.

“Oh, you know...”

“Hey, this is supposed to be a fun day. You said Dad was dead in your world, right? Don’t spoil this reunion, just relax and enjoy spending time with him.”

“You’re right, and I am excited. It will be so good to see Dad and to be able to tell him I love him. It was awful that we didn’t get to say goodbye to them.”

“I can imagine. I’m glad I’m in my dimension and not yours.”

“Oh, well, as to that, you are supremely happy there. You love Jack and your children to bits.”

She noticed her sister taking her eyes off the road and turning toward her, casting a frowning glance of approbation.

“I love Clare. I don’t want to be with anyone else. I might even have a baby with her,” Allie stated coldly.

“Oh, I know that. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you! I was just pointing out it isn’t all bad in the world where I live,” she said quickly.

“Okay then, as long as we are clear,” Allie replied, sounding mollified.

Their father came out as soon as they parked on his driveway. Penny hung back, letting her sister greet him first. She drank in the sight of a father she’d never thought to see again. Thinner than she remembered him, he’d aged but essentially looked exactly the same as the last time she’d seen him. Her throat constricted, she fought tears. It would never do to upset him. She lagged behind her sister.

“Chickens?” he called, holding out an arm to Allie and another to her. At the familiar refrain she hastened over and wrapped her arms about his waist. Reaching up to kiss his dear cheek, his familiar scent—Old Spice aftershave and Dad—overwhelmed her and an inadvertent tear escaped. Penny quickly brushed it away before he noticed.

“How are you, Dad?” she asked.

“All the better for seeing my chicks!” He gave his stock reply to her question. “Come on in. I have coffee brewed and Mrs. James next door bought some of her homemade apple cake around. I rather think the woman fancies me!”
