“The Ritz?” she said in disbelief.

“Only the best for you, baby!”

“But... The Ritz? Can you afford to stay here?” Her voice raised an octave.

“Maybe not all the time, no, but for a special occasion, sure we can, we have done well with our business,” he reassured her brightly. “Come along, Mrs. Forrester, our suite awaits.”

She was overawed by the magnificence and splendour of the entrance and the huge lobby. While David checked them in, she gazed about her at the luxurious surroundings.

Finally they were taken to their suite. As the door swung inward she gasped with delight at the room she’d entered. The gorgeous rococo furniture painted in cream and gold and furnished in china blue and cream upholstery was stunning. She looked at the thick carpet and immediately kicked off her trainers.

“Oh, we have a balcony!” she exclaimed. Turning, she caught sight of the huge flamboyant mirror on the side wall where David was reflected tipping the bellboy.

He closed the door and turned to her. “You like?” he asked, a big grin on his face. She ran to him in her stocking feet and threw herself at him. He caught her and swung her around.

“I love it!” she cried.

“Good,” he said and lowered his mouth to hers. Sliding her arms about him, she leant into his kiss. After a few moments things became heated, and she tore herself away.

“Hey!” he complained.

“Not yet, I want to explore the bedroom and the bathroom!” She broke free and danced away into the next room, leaving him to follow.

It was a sumptuous room with gold, cream, and china blue accents. The rococo theme ran through both rooms. The bed was simply gorgeous. She had to try it out. Skipping over and onto the most perfect grown-up bed she’d ever seen, Penny spread her arms and legs wide and lay surrounded in luxury. She lifted her head at the sound of a male chuckle.

“What?” she questioned.

“You. You say you want to be an adult all the time, but you behave like a little. I just don’t get you.” He shook his head and turned from the room.

“Wait! Where are you going?” she called.

“To open the champers,” he replied from the other room. She scrambled off the bed and arrived in the sitting room just as the cork popped from the bottle. He poured the pale frothy mix into the two flutes and with a flourish, presented her with one.

“To us!” he declared.

“To us,” she echoed.

Taking a sip, she wrinkled her nose. It was drier than she would have liked. He gave a knowing chuckle. She raised her brow at him.

“You’d prefer a Coke, wouldn’t you?” he teased.

“No, this is delicious,” she lied, brazening it out.

“Drink up then and I’ll pour you another.”

Noting the challenge in his eye, she gulped down the fizz and held out her glass for more. His smug grin irritated her.I’ll show him, she decided and downed that glass too, holding out her glass for another.

He frowned. “Hey, go easy, you’re not used to this stuff!”

“I like it; more, please!” she goaded.

Refilling her glass, he sat on the couch, leg crossed, the ankle rested on his knee. He watched her drink.

“So what’s the plan?” she asked after draining her glass.

“Plan?”

“Yeah, schedule for tomorrow.”
