Chapter Three

He finished explaininghow the age-play dynamic worked and looked at her expectantly.

“So it was you who first suggested we try this daddy-little thing, before we were even married?”

David gave a wry grin. “Oh, baby, you were so up for it. I just suggested we play weekends; it was you who wanted a twenty-four/seven daddy.”

“Me?” she squeaked. This sounded highly unlikely. She’d been careful to keep her fascination for age-play secret. How did that come about? Penny was a designer and she worked from home. “We both know in reality we are adults. In the bedroom and working, you are my wife. When you use your little girl voice, I treat you as a little. It’s our downtime.”

“Kind of like a hobby, you mean?”

“Yeah...”

An insistent ringing noise interrupted him. Honey began to bark. “That’ll be Clare, Doctor Blake,” he said, rising. She and the dog followed him into the hall but Penny hung back as he answered the door. Honey had no reservations and leapt up at the tall woman who stepped inside and fussed with the dog. Her gaze searched behind David and a smile lit her face when she caught sight of Penny. She held open her arms. Penny took a step back. The doctor’s face fell.

“Oh, dear, is Penny in trouble?” she asked, turning to David.

“Not at all, it’s way more complicated than that. Why don’t we all move into the living room and I’ll explain. Honey, go to your bed, that’s a good dog.”

The dog whined a complaint, but nevertheless turned obediently to trot back toward the kitchen.

“I suggest I examine you to rule out any physical cause for this memory loss,” Doctor Blake said, looking at Penny. “David, would you give us a moment alone, please?”

“Yeah, sure.” He left the room.

Penny looked the woman with cropped dark hair in the eye. “I don’t think I’ve lost my memory,” she stated firmly.

“Okay. Well, first things first. You described the plane buffeting you, so I think it would be wise to check you over, most especially to rule out concussion.”

The doctor took Penny’s pulse then checked her blood pressure. She used an ear thermometer to measure her temperature. All three read as normal. Next she flashed a light into Penny’s eyes and looked down her throat. As she ran her hands over Penny’s skull, she explained that she was looking for any abrasions, lumps, or bumps.

“Hmm, well, I can find nothing physically wrong, although your blood pressure is understandably up a bit... I’ll refer you for a scan.” She sat back and fixed Penny with a shrewd, assessing look. “Are there any problems between the two of you that you would like to share?” she asked.

Penny shook her head. “Other than the fact I don’t know David. As far as I’m concerned he’s a stranger. I met him for the first time at the airport a few hours ago. I don’t know him from Adam. I mean, he seems a very nice person but...” She trailed off.

“You’ve always seemed really close as a couple. I confess to being slightly envious of that in the past. I’ve known you both since you sought out a ‘little’-friendly doctor who would understand the dynamics of the lifestyle.”
