“Congratulations, sis! I am so happy you won David back again and you have the love of your life, or should I say lives?” Allie hugged her.

Penny returned the embrace. “Thank you for all your love and support.”

“Always, I love you,” Allie replied seriously.

“I love you too. Oh, and Allie, you will take special care of Honey while we’re honeymooning?” she asked quietly.

Allie rolled her eyes. “How many times have I promised you that? Honey will be just fine; the children will spoil her rotten. Now stop worrying, and go and enjoy your big day!”

Penny watched her sister move away and reflected that despite the ups and downs over the past year she was incredibly lucky to have a sister like Allie. She just knew that whatever had happened between her previous husband David and Penny, Allie would have supported the other Penny with as much determination and love as this version of Allie had supported her.

“Hey, girl, welcome to our family. My, but don’t you look stunning! We might see more of you in the future now there’s a chance you’ll be living in the Big Apple...”

“Mom, hush, I haven’t had a chance to discuss that with my wife yet!” David interrupted his mother.

“Oops, sorry, dear... Congratulations, you two,” she said and hurried away.

It was impossible to ask David what his mother and he were talking about because the queue of guests relentlessly demanded her attention.

Finally, seated at their wedding breakfast, she turned to question him about the Big Apple comment his mother had made.

“I’ve been offered the chance to take over our New York office. The position comes with an apartment overlooking Central Park for six months. If we decide we want to stay, then we can look for a place of our own. What do you think?”

“I-I don’t know. Can I think about it and let you know?” She was shaken. Having only envisaged a life similar to the one she’d lived previously, it hadn’t occurred to her that she might live any differently in this dimension.

“I don’t have to give the office my answer until next week,” David tried to reassure her.

“Next week?” she echoed faintly.

He put down his cutlery and swivelled to face her. Taking both her hands in his, he ran his thumbs over the backs of her hands. “This is your special day, which is why I didn’t want to mention any of this until afterwards. Put it out of your mind and enjoy today. Tomorrow we’ll talk about the future, now is for the present. Our wedding day, your moment to shine, nothing else exists but today. We will talk tomorrow, understand?”

She nodded.

“Good girl. Smile for me, princess.”

There was a flash as the photographer captured the moment.

“Ican’t quite believeit, alone at last,” he said.

“That sounds like a line from a corny movie.” She laughed.

“I’m about to get even cornier...” He came to a halt in the long corridor and swooped in, gathering her up into his arms.

She squealed.

Juggling her, he managed to unlock the door to their stateroom. The door swung open wide; he stepped through and kicked it closed with his heel. Inside, he set her on her feet.

“Wow! I didn’t expect to have so much space in a ship’s cabin!” Penny exclaimed.

“Because it’s a suite, not a cabin; see, we have a sitting room through there, and wraparound balcony. Look, they left a champagne bucket for us. Would you like a glass?” he asked.

She shook her head. All she wanted was him, finally, and after all this time, he was hers, and she, his.

He caught her sultry gaze and stilled. Penny walked to where he stood and tugged on his bow tie until it fell into two loose strands. Undoing the top button of his shirt, she stroked a finger over his pulse.

“Why, Mrs. Forrester, are you attempting to seduce me?”
