BEN

The front door swings open. Beautiful fierce brown eyes meet mine. “You’re late.”

She’s already eager to ream me and we haven’t even begun the trek together. But I plan to utilize every second I’m given to drive her insane. Which doesn’t take much effort on my part since I tend to bring it out of her naturally. Glancing at my watch, I shrug. “Or maybe you’re ahead of our imaginary itinerary.”

Her hand falls from the door, her furious stare still on me. “Yes. Because your sister getting married isn’t important enough to inconvenience you toactuallyshow up on time for once.” She steps out and turns her back to me, mumbling a few curses under her breath as she locks her front door. My eyes scan the nape of her neck, and I resist the urge to slide my fingers into her dark hair that she has tied up in a messy bun.

I don’t understand exactly what she’s saying, but I get the gist of it when I catch a “dipshit” and “inconsiderate asshat” in her frustrated ranting. And they’re about to get worse. “Is Drewski not joining us on the road trip?”

Avoiding looking my way, she stomps past me and moves to the back of her car before opening the trunk. She stares into it for a beat, and I swear I see a slight smile breaking through her annoyance.

I grab my bags out of Dad’s truck and place them beside her bags as she continues staring into the trunk. “You didn’t answer me. Do I need to call shotgun or is Drewski busy snorkeling tonight?”

“Drew and I aren’t together anymore. Haven’t been for over a month.” She reaches up to close the trunk with a swift shove before looking to me. “But you already knew that, so stop being a dickhead, dickhead.”

“How was I supposed to know he didn’t weasel his way back in your bed?” My eyes drop automatically to the point of her V-neck, and it’s everything I can do to pull my eyes away, willing them up before they trail down her voluptuous curves, imagining what’s beneath her yoga pants.

I wouldn’t blame him for trying, but when Sarah told me he was finally out of the picture, I was beyond grateful. He never deserved Josie. Not that I do, but he sure as fuck didn’t.

“You know what,” she stops at the driver’s side door and points behind me. “Take your dad’s truck. I’ll even follow behind you in case you break down. If so, I’ll call a tow. Then, no matter what, we don’t have to speak directly to each other.”

“How will I know what I’m late for if you’re not there to nag me every five seconds?”

“Seriously. I’ll pay you, the tow truck driver, and the therapist for us all if you just shut up and ride in any other vehicle.”

“I doubt Dad’s would make it that far, but even so, I can’t pass up the opportunity to hear all about life without Drewski. Plus, Sarah made me promise I’d ride with you and get to her wedding in one piece.”

Her furious eyes watch me over the roof of her car. “Welp, I didn’t make that promise on my end, so…”

Damn. She’s past wanting to ream me, and I’m just getting started. A smile stretches across my face as I ask, “So, I don’t need to call shotgun, but I call dibs on the playlist.”

She pulls the door open, hurries into the driver’s seat and looks over at me as I drop into the passenger seat as she mutters, “I call dibs on a shovel.”

“Nope.” I glance at my watch. “No time to stop for one. We’re already running late.”

Another string of curses leaves her mouth as she starts the car and backs out of the driveway. Reaching over, I turn the radio on, push a few buttons until my phone connects, and select a random playlist because I have zero intention of listening to any of the songs playing. Pushing her buttons is the only thing I want to focus on for the next six excruciating hours.
