Kissing the top of her head, I say the only thing I can. “I love you.”

CHAPTER 37

“You look perfect!”Lori squeals, clapping her hands together as she admires her work on my makeup. Turning me toward the mirror, I look at my reflection, then at her. She’s holding out a scandalous outfit behind me.

“Lori, you didn’t,” I complain. My hair has unnatural volume, my eyes are dark, almost black, and she’s holding out the same leather skirt and red crop top I had on when Theo and I first met.

“No one is going to let me out of this house wearing that.”

She lifts a shoulder, the corner of her mouth hiking higher with her large grin. “Theo will love you in this. I saw how he looked at you when you first met. I totally could have called you guys together.”

I swallow, flicking my gaze back to the outfit in question. A frown builds along my forehead. I’m nowhere near as confident as my friend.

“Let’s be honest; Theo won’t let his eyes leave you tonight. Think of it as helping him with his job.”

My stomach swirls with energy and curiosity of poking at Theo’s protective side. “I have a feeling they won’t think of it like that.”

I eye the outfit before taking it from her hands to put on. Lori and I walk down the stairs. Luca and his wife, Aly, are there with Theo, waiting for us to finally come down. I still have a hard time calling Theo “Kane.” In my head, he will always be Theo.

“Hell no,” Luca and Theo say at the same time before looking at each other. They’re starting to tolerate each other. I’m not sure if Luca will ever like him. It’s just not in his nature.

“You are not going dancing in that,” Theo says, crossing his arms. His eyes narrow at me, his annoyance slipping from his face momentarily as he looks me up and down. A small laugh escapes me, having caught him liking my outfit.

I look toward Lori and smirk. “I’m doing this for you, honey. It’s the only way your eyes won’t leave me tonight, and it’ll make it easier to protect me.”

My brother chuckles before covering it with a cough.

“You go out like that, and it’ll guarantee I’ll be fucking you before we get home.”

I playfully pat his jaw and wink at him. “A girl can hope.” I lean in for my breath to whisper across his skin. “Don’t forget your handcuffs.”

“You girls are not going alone. I’m coming with Kane,” my brother says.

“Oh no, this is a girls’ night,” his wife tries to argue.

“We’re not alone. Th—Kane, will be watching us from outside the whole time,” I sass, enjoying the banter.

“Nope. Luca and I are now coming inside. Or you go change.” Theo looks so damn sexy when he tries to pull his protector card. It makes me want to rile him up more to see what he does to me afterward.

“Fine, then come.” I smile, looking right at him.

We pull up to the same bar where Theo and I met. He lifts a humorless brow in my direction, and Lori nudges me with her elbow, catching the glance.

We walk in, and the place is packed; the bar is twice as busy. “We’ll go get drinks. See if you can find a table.” I direct the boys as us girls attempt to walk away.

Theo pulls me tight to him. “I’ll get drinks, while Luca and you girls find a table.”

“You can’t carry five drinks by yourself.”

“Who says you girls are drinking?”

Not allowing Theo to have his way, I twist out of his hold and start walking to the bar. I get three steps before his hands wrap around me from behind and he’s leading us to the end of the bar.

“You like driving me crazy,” he rasps in my ear.

I lean back into him and nip at his earlobe. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

A deep chuckle vibrates on my neck.
