He thinks before he answers. I like this about Max. He never just talks to hear himself speak. “Without a doubt, you are the best person I have ever met.”

I don’t have time to smile, because Romeo is slamming the door open. “I have to go.” He talks to Max before directing his attention to me. “We’re still having our date tonight. I’ll be back.”

Then he yanks the door closed behind him. I can hear the tires on the dirt road. When I go to look out the window, all I can see is dust, and the car along with Romeo is gone.

“Looks like it’s just you and me.”

I can’t help the slight pang of disappointment that hits me. I was looking forward to getting to know Romeo more and hoped I would learn more about myself.

Max takes out a bottle of vodka and a couple of shot glasses. A girly recipe with vodka comes to mind. What is it with me and recipes?

Going to the cupboard, I pull out peach schnapps, raspberries, lemon, and ginger ale. I go about making us each a pitcher we can pour into shot glasses. Maybe with me drinking, it will jog part of my memory.
