LunaandIwalkhand in hand into our engagement party. She’s wearing all black—black jeans that hug her ass perfectly, with a black corset. Every eye lands on her. Both her father and brother frown, seeing her outfit. When she rebels, I find it fucking sexy as hell. Every other person is wearing a fancy evening gown.

“Want a vodka?” she teases, her face lighting up as she nudges me. Her perfume invades my senses, and I want to kiss her. “Why are you looking at me like that?” Luna’s cheeks pinken just a tinge. Her body squirms although she tries to force herself to be still.

Taking her gorgeous face in my hands, I lean down, my eyes dropping to her blood-red lips. Every nerve ending tingles as I make my movements slow. Her eyes hood, encouraging me, and excitement enters my heart as she kisses me back. My fingers dig into her long, dark hair. The sounds of the room fade away. All that matters is that Luna is in my arms with these people as my witnesses.

She melts into me, making me feel like I could do anything. She is everything to me. A hand clamps hard on my shoulder, and I draw away from Luna.

“You’re not married yet,” her brother growls. “Don’t be disrespecting our family.”

He shakes my hand to make it look like he’s not pissed about our public display of affection, while my chest practically feels like I’m pumping it like a gorilla. I love that everyone knows she’s mine.

“I appreciate your concern,” I answer with a smile. “I can guarantee if I get out of line, Luna will put me in my place.” I pull her into me, my arm wrapping around her waist.

“Enjoy your party.” He looks from me to Luna.

“So that drink?” Luna laughs, and we make our way to the bar. She’s in a good mood, it relaxes me. I never wanted to upset her by deceiving her, but it was my only option if I wanted her to give us a fair chance.

I’m a sore loser. I hate failing, and I wasn’t willing to lose her.

The bartender glances at her pushed up cleavage, and when I growl beside her, he clears his throat and turns his attention to me.

“Do you realizewhoyou were just eye-fucking?” I ask the bartender, keeping my voice calm and low.

Luna pinches my side as she addresses him. “Don’t mind him, handsome. He never learned to share.”

I glare at the bartender, and he makes quick work of the drinks Luna ordered and doesn’t look in her direction once.Good.

Bending down, my lips tug on her earlobe. “Careful, Luna. I have no problems with murder.”

She laughs, and it sounds sweet. I lead her toward my side of the room. My uncle is sitting with all of his top men. He sees us coming and excuses himself. He’s become slower these days. He keeps asking for me to be his eyes and ears. It’s becoming harder as he ages and life takes its toll.

“So, this is the beautiful bride-to-be you keep hiding from me.” He takes Luna’s hand and presses a kiss to her knuckles. Her smile is strained, and I hate it. I pull her to me before his lips leave her skin. My uncle doesn’t miss a beat, and I realized this is the first time I have shown my weakness.

Uncle chuckles. “He’s protective. You’re in good hands, my dear.” He watches us with more curiosity. “I look forward to the wedding.”

We are congratulated a few more times before I’m able to steer the two of us away. I can feel Luna’s tension gripping her more intensely by the second.

I lead her out of the grand room to the courtyard that’s surrounded by greenery. I walk us into the fresh air that smells like flowers. Coming to the middle, there’s a circle of stones surrounding flowers in bloom.

I get down on one knee in front of her, and she freezes. I let a shaky breath out and grab hold of her hand. “I made an error by pushing you away.” I take an uncontrolled breath, still on my knee. Anyone could come out and see this declaration of love. I’m once again putting her in danger, but it has to be said. “I should have told you how I felt about you six years ago. You were more than my best friend. I knew I loved you, but the thought scared me.”

She’s looking down at me, holding my hand. My thumb swipes over my lips as I try to put how I feel in words. It’s not an easy task. My mouth is dry, and I wish I brought out a drink for us. So many emotions swirl through me. I feel sweaty, and my stomach clenches.

“Luna Rossi, I am in love with you. Will you please be my wife?” My hand slips into my pocket, and I bring out a small, curved knife I had engraved for her. The knife fits on two of her fingers and can flip in to be hidden and flipped out when in a fight. The curve aspect of it makes it deadly.

She takes the knife from me, sliding it onto her fingers. I contemplate if I should get up from my knees. If she says no, would I let her go?My temperature rises another degree. I want Luna happy, but I could never live with her happy with someone else. No, this wedding is happening. If I broke it off, it would mean war, just like if Luna broke it off.

“Yes.”

My ears strain to hear her, and for a second, I think I misheard. “Yes?”

She smiles. “Yes.” She rolls her eyes.

Relief floods my veins, and I stand up, wrapping her in my embrace.
