“Have I ever told you that you look sexier than hell with a gun?” I try to flatter him.

“You wouldn’t feel any guilt if you just told me you were going to your sister’s.”

I swallow the saliva in my mouth. How much does he know? “Looks like we both like to keep it interesting by holding onto secrets,” I accuse.

He bends over, picking up his drink, and takes a sip. The ice clinks as loud as the tension in the room. His eyes never leave mine. “We both know no one runs from their bloodline. When my uncle dies, I’ll be boss. It was never a secret.”

This is the moment of truth. Do I trust Fin with my sister’s secret?

“Katrina is pregnant with the Bratva’s heir.” When he doesn’t look shocked, I realize he already knew. I can’t help the laugh that escapes me. “Obviously, she’ll be known as the sinful queen once she conquers the Russians. As you just said, no one can escape bloodlines.”

“You don’t need to make light of the situation. There isn’t much I don’t know, Luna. The faster you realize this, the faster we can get on with our lives and stop living with secrets. I’m an open book. Ask me anything.” He raises his hands, one with his drink, the other with his gun.

“I thought the whole point was for us to be open with each other. Not force the other one into guessing games.”

He gives me a look. “That’s not fair.”

“Well, life isn’t either.” I shove past him, not knowing how to deal with the emotions running through me. All he had to do was tell me he knew about Katrina. “You have a week to change your mind on this wedding.”

“Not a chance when you make my life so much more interesting than ever before. Goodnight, soon-to-be wife.”

Chapter 25

Luna

Theskyisblack, but the wind makes it sound like nature is still awake. When the sun rises, it will officially be my wedding day.

I open the door, the alarm system already cut. He’s remodeled since I was here last. Can’t say I like what he’s done to the place.

I walk up the stairs, and when I hit the landing, I pause. It’s not a sound that has me hesitating. It’s my brain that refuses to turn off.

Five more steps and turn right. I focus on that instead of my restless thoughts.

The bedroom has a nightlight that glows, allowing me to see the lump on the bed. I wonder if he’s afraid of the dark because of me.

I hover over him, my gun in my hands. Slowly, I reach to turn on the lamp on the bedside table, hoping that will wake him. The light flashes on, making the room look like day. As hoped, his eyes open wide when he sees the barrel of my gun and I take a seat on the bed.

“Boundaries, Luna. We’ve been over this.” My therapist, Greg, scrambles to sit up.

“We haven’t chatted in a while,” I pout mockingly.

He wipes at his eyes like that will help him wake up. He squints as if he’s trying to see clearly. Or maybe he’s hoping this is a dream. “You are no longer my client,” he stresses.

Cry me a river.

“I’m getting married.” I cross my arms, looking pointedly at him.

“Congratulations?” He stares blankly at me, looking baffled as to why I’m here.

“I have to kill him.”

He sighs. “Of course you do. Why are you sabotaging this relationship?” He sounds deflated.

“It’s not like I want to,” I reply defensively. I can hear him saying that I never let people in.Blah, blah, blah.“This is different from all the times before.”

“How is it different?”

“I don’t want to do it. But my hands are tied. I have to protect my sister, Katrina. You remember her, right?”
