“I want you to have this.” He tries to hand me his gun. It’s the one he used on his first hit. It’s the one he’s contributed to saving his life a hundred times. Guns like this never get passed on while their owner is living. The thought has me worried that he’s deteriorating faster than expected.

“Why the fuck are you giving me this?” I refuse to touch it. It’s not mine to take.

“Let’s cut the bullshit, Fin. We both know why,” he wheezes.

My back molars grind, and I take a deep breath, trying to calm my pulse. I can feel my blood racing through my veins, and it’s uncomfortable. The edginess I feel is unnerving. My focus is elsewhere, not on what I should be thinking about.

“She’s the one, Fin.” He nods at me and makes what looks like a move to stand but must not have the strength, so he keeps sitting.

“How do you know?”

He shrugs. “I’ve been in love many times in my life but never discoveredthe one.” He talks with his hands like I could take or leave this little speech of his. “I loved each of my wives, but I knew they never loved me back.” A sad chuckle leaves him. “You know you found the one when you feel shit you’ve blocked out ever since you realized what this life is about. When you contemplate if being around you is bad for them.”

“How do you know she feels it too?”

“That’s the exciting part about getting married. You don’t know until it’s too late.”

“I need to see Luna,” I blurt out. My uncle’s speech is not helping the anxiety spreading to every cell in my body.

I walk out of the room, marching right to Luna’s room. I bang on the door three times as hard as I can. Luna’s fucking brother answers the door naked. I kick the door open farther to see his wife wrapping the bed sheets around her body.

“Where the fuck is Luna?” I yell, losing control.

Luna is making me do everything I fucking hate. Everything I refused I would ever do. Here I am, once again, showing weakness.

“Fuck, man, she thought you’d try to curse the wedding by seeing her. You know how women are about that shit. My mother would rather cut out your heart than have a wedding if it means you breaking tradition.” He finishes the statement to my retreating back as I head to my room.

I’m hardly able to contain myself by the time my groomsmen arrive to my room. It’s all Luna’s family. Her brother and two brothers-in-law. My uncle leaves after their arrival, saying goodbye and that he’ll be in the front row.

“Aren’t chicks supposed to be the worried ones?” Luca questions with a snicker.

“Aria just texted me. The girls are with Luna,” Aria’s husband, Kane—who was once known as Theo—confirms.

“What are you two whispering about like girls?” I ask Romeo and Luca, who have their heads together in a private conversation.

“Romeo’s been taking bets on what color Luna will wear; plus, we get to bet if she’s wearing a dress or pants.”

Fucking assholes. “You’re betting on my soon-to-be wife?”

“It was his idea.” Romeo points to Luna’s brother.

“You have to admit it’s a good bet.”

“You guys are unbelievable,” I mutter.

Kane takes out four cans of beer from the mini fridge, each of us popping the tabs. “To Fin and Luna,” he announces.

The bitter bubbles dance down my throat. It does nothing to help calm me, so I don’t bother with another drink. I hold it in my hand until I can put it back down.

I need to get rid of these guys so I can go find Luna myself. Then I’ll finally be able to calm down.

Chapter 26

Luna

Mysistersfretaroundme, fluffing my veil, fanning my blood-red dress. I smirk to myself. Everyone thought I’d wear black, but I think red is more appropriate.

I’ve never considered myself the marrying type. I never thought someone would accept me just the way I am. I’m too much like one of the guys. I like to play with guns, I swear too much, and I have a hard time committing to a dinner plan. I like being by myself… except for when I’m with Fin.
