“I’ll be back. There’s a bucket in the corner if you need to use the bathroom.” His eyes are vacant as he steps back, and I’m left to hear his loud steps disappear before I rush to use the bucket.

Chapter 30: Demetri

Myfocusisshot.I’m left to watch and analyze each move Katrina makes in the basement. She’s been down there for almost a week, and it takes everything in me not to go down and feed her one piece at a time, forcing her to rely on me.

I’m almost happy that it got to this point. I can’t decide which version of her I like more. The sassy, confident, take-no-shit version, or this needy, docile, at-my-mercy one. My dick throbs with both of them.

I vaguely hear Katrina’s name being said, and I look up. Mikhail is staring at me with a brow lifted.Shit, I forgot he was even here.

I clear my throat. “What was that?”

“You know, you’re way less distracted when she’s riding your cock on the daily.” My cousin knows I’m keeping her locked away somewhere, but no one knows the location. He seems to be on Katrina’s side, but that’s Mikhail for you. He’s always for what’s better for business.

“I thought you didn’t like her,” I prompt.

“I’m not resorting to a broad’s level by answering that. This is the video I was telling you about. It has Katrina and her brother meeting before she went to her gallery. They’ve been playing us the entire time. What we need to do is kill Luca. Eliminate him and go into his territory. You can keep Katrina under lock and key for the rest of her life.”

“What was the point of diamonds being sent to our house?”

“To prove how easy it is to get anything past you. Her brother was probably proving a point to you.”

“Why would Siya enter our territory, wanting to do business with us? None of these things make any sense.”

“Because they wanted to see how you would react. And you took him for a tour of your wife’s gallery. Next thing ya know, they’ll want our territory and the Italians’.”

Something is off. None of it makes sense. My phone buzzes on my desk. I don’t have to look at it to know it’s Luca. He’s been calling me over and over without my picking up.

He went weeks without talking to her when we were first married. But now he’s calling me because my wife won’t pick up.

Unless they talked daily back then without me knowing it, and now he’s not getting his reports on me from her….

My heart constricts. I don’t like to think that, even though the evidence seems to point to it.

“Luca Rossi,” I greet on the fifth ring.

“Demetri.” Silence follows. I’m about to hang up, when he speaks again. “We’re having a family get-together. It would be nice for you guys to come.”

I snort. “Talk to my wife. She deals with shit like that. I have business to attend to.”

“Listen, my mother really wants to see the girls. She’s afraid Katrina is pulling away again.”

“Still doesn’t explain why you’re tellingmethis shit.” I keep fishing for more information.

He sighs. “She’s not taking our calls. My mother is worried that this time we’ll lose her forever.”

“I’ll talk to her. Text me the details. But I’ll always side with my wife. If she says no, I won’t try changing her mind.” I hang up, having said the last word. This could be the perfect opportunity to find out what Luca Rossi is planning against me.

“You have that look in your eye,” Mikhail says, his forehead wrinkling. This is his signature face when he’s worried about something.

“Don’t worry. I won’t back down from murdering his ass when I learn his plan. I won’t disrespect Eva bynotdoing it.”

I hold Mikhail’s eyes. I’ve been a shitty cousin. We were raised like brothers, and I’ve been so consumed with Katrina that I haven’t checked to see if he’s been all right. I know he was hoping Eva was the one for him, and it was a big step for Mikhail. I’ve never known my cousin to date seriously, ever.

He lifts his phone, breaking our eye contact. “Fuck, we have bad news.” I don’t say anything as his eyes dart across his phone. “The last shipment we secured from the port is missing.”

My knuckles turn white with how hard I’m squeezing my fist before I slam my hand on the table between us. Each muscle contracts making me feel stiff as I storm out of the room. Whoever is responsible for my misfortune will pay the price. Even if it’s my wife.

Imakemystepsextra loud when I enter the basement, seeing Katrina with a blanket wrapped around her naked body as I approach. I caved last time I was down here when she asked for one.
