Chapter Five

Sitting at her desk with a People magazine in front of her, Shannon Hudson answered the phone. “Ms. O’Neal’s office, how may I help you?”

“You have the nicest voice, Shannon. Doesn’t Payton give you a lunch break?”

Shannon knew Jack’s voice immediately. Many men did not pay attention to her once they had met Ms. O’Neal, but not Jack. She enjoyed how flirtations and nice he was to her.

“I’m just too busy to take one today, but Ms. O’Neal always pays me extra when I can’t have a lunch break.” Shannon began doodling hearts on her magazine as she spoke. Another line began to light up but she left it, to continue with Jack. “What can I help you with?”

“Well, I seem to have misplaced a few of the signed documents from Mr. Taylor’s offer. I really didn’t want to go to Payton and Mr. Taylor and look disorganized. You seem to be very sweet and understanding; maybe I could stop by to glance over the paperwork and photocopy it. I would forever be in your debt.”

Shannon understood where he was coming from. Payton had a way of doing this to people. This was why she called her Ms. O’Neal instead of Payton. “Of course, Jack. Ms. O’Neal will be out of the office for most of the afternoon, within the next hour.”

“You are doing me a huge favor, but if we could please just keep this our secret. I don’t want to look incompetent to Ms. O’Neal or Mr. Taylor.”

Wanting to keep his approval she added, “I’ll give you a phone call once she leaves.”

Jack hung up, smiling to himself, and continued to look at the fake documents he planned to switch for the real ones. This was easier than taking candy from a baby.

“How may I help you?” Shannon cheerfully greeted the stranger walking in as she hung up the phone.

He looked suspiciously out of place in the office. It looked like he hadn’t shaved for days and he wore a dirty pair of faded blue jeans. His t-shirt looked like it had been rolled up in a tiny ball before he decided to do the sniff test to see if he should wear it again.

“I was wondering if I could talk to someone about purchasing a place,” Logan said, as he tried to quickly absorb the details of the office and also get a feel for the assistant. Logan got the impression that this pretty-faced assistant was very honest. She would be just the right person to aid him with his investigation.

“This is amust-have property,” Payton exclaimed on the phone, as she was telling Dixon of this new listing that would hit the market tomorrow. “A few minor touch-ups and you could easily double your profits.” As she spoke she swiveled her office chair to face the back wall, where a massive poster advertisement of herself hung. She put her hand into her bra and began to pull and nip at her soft, pink nipple, roughing it up until it became hard and elongated. Imagining Dixon licking and sucking on them, she dipped her pointer finger in her mouth, wrapping her tongue around it as she sucked, ensuring it became moist, before returning to her nipple. Her finger and thumb began to circle her puckered nipple as she gently massaged her breast. Slowly her whole body began to warm, starting at her bosom and making its way to her sweet spot. Her pussy began to become tingly and uncomfortable that nothing was touching it. She moved her other hand down to alleviate the need she felt. With her motions she became too excited to be talking on the phone. Not wanting to stop the image of her and Dixon getting it on, or her actual conversation with him, she tried to muffle her quickening breath. Feeling the pressure build in her wet pussy she had to mute her phone, slipping two of her fingers past her panties and driving herself over the edge.

Dixon’s special treatment for her had begun to decline recently. Payton was unsure if it was because of the night she poured her heart out to him, which must have been way too much information, or if the last real estate deal was becoming part of the past. She wanted that extra attention again; so much so that she figured she had to make an incredible deal for Dixon in order to recapture her glorified status. Or maybe things were getting better at home with Devon. Payton quickly shook her head and dismissed that thought. She just didn’t understand what he saw in Devon. There was so much sexual tension between her and Dixon that she felt certain Devon must be on the way out. Payton couldn’t understand why he stayed with her. She bet Dixon was a fantastic lover. That must be it. Eww, gross! Payton could not imagine Dixon and Devon doing it together.

“When are we seeing the place then?” Dixon’s voice brought her back to reality, and she removed her hand from her panties, swiveling back to the front of her desk. She couldn’t help but have to reposition herself in her chair from the tingling sensation down below.

“How about this afternoon, after lunch?” Payton responded. She felt this incredible need to see him, talk to him and have him be near her. She was driving herself crazy with the amount of time she spent thinking about him.

The only downfall to the property was that Jack Hewitt was the other realtor. The less amount of time Payton had to see the guy, the better. He made her blood run cold and just plain made her angry. What made it worse was that he seemed to have sweet-talked his way into Shannon’s heart. After they had made their first deal he sent them both flowers with a card saying: Fun doing business with you. Looking forward to the next time. It was hard to totally forget Jack when her assistant was bringing him up. Apparently, he sent Shannon a muffin and coffee just for taking phone messages from him.

As Payton and Dixon made their way to midtown Manhattan, Payton could see the Trump Palace, where the new prospect property was located. The slender brick tower was once one of the city’s most handsome buildings. But once Trump went bankrupt again the tower began to fall from luxury condos to need-work apartments. With Trump remaining the public face, he brought on investors to help put life back into the condo and to save it from his bankruptcy. There began to be a trend among recent investors into this building with a return to the luxurious state.

Jack, Dixon and Payton stood awkwardly in the once beautiful elevator, which now needed a new paint job and some tender loving care. They were crammed in, having to stand almost touching each other because the space was being taken up by a large pile of garbage bags. They could smell a mixture of spoiling food, musk and dead air. Getting to the thirtieth floor seemed like an eternity. Jack did promise the view would be sensational and worth every penny. Payton prayed he was correct and it was nothing less than what was advertised.

All three stepped into the large, dimly lit condo. It smelled like no one had been in this condo for a while, and there was a light coating of dust on the tops of edges around the room. Payton immediately opened the massive blinds that hung in front of them. Sunlight quickly took over the room, giving the place a more welcoming feeling.

Dixon began to survey the place as he looked around. As he checked out the possible study room, Payton wandered into the kitchen. Normally, she would have stayed with Dixon, but having Jack with them was throwing her off her game. Payton stood in the kitchen, looking out the window at the breath-taking view as she pondered her situation. She had no idea how to act around Jack while Dixon was here. It was then she felt two arms come around her body as her hands rested on the counter, leaving her no personal space. The body felt warm. Payton thought it odd she didn’t hear Dixon come into the room. Maybe she was worrying for nothing and she in fact hadn’t relayed too much personal information the other night. As Payton breathed in she could smell the mint flavor from his gum. A hundred different thoughts raced through her mind in a matter of seconds. She was a little surprised that Dixon was being so openly affectionate. This could be good news. Yet, in the back of her mind, she did consider that this must not look too professional either. Payton pondered to herself. Do I care? As she turned around to Dixon the smile on her face quickly turned into a frown.

“Hey, babe.” Her face was overwhelmed with the smell of Jack’s minty breath and she was suddenly aware of how close they were. His face must have been an inch from hers.

Forcefully, she used her two hands to push Jack away while she firmly stated: “Not interested,” in a hushed voice. There was no need to cause a scene, which would result in questions from Dixon.

Jack was grinning and chuckled as he said, “We’ll see about that,” as he watched her walk away.

As Payton walked away she straightened her pencil skirt and tried to quash her frustration as she looked for Dixon. She found him in the large living room, immersed in his own thoughts. “What are you thinking?” Payton asked.

Dixon did a little survey as they stood in the room. “I don’t know,” was all he said as he continued to think and observe the condo.

This was the first time Payton had ever seen Dixon really thinking about buying a place. He seemed to usually act on impulse and make an offer on anything that seemed like a good deal. She could tell that whenever they walked into a place he just saw dollar signs and normally thought of nothing else. By this definition, this condo had Dixon written all over it. Payton was taken off guard that Dixon was not ready to write the check here and now. After what seemed like an hour of appraising the place, Dixon was ready to go.
