Chapter Eleven

Even though Logan was tired and hung over he still managed to have a shower. He did not want to feel his pores oozing out what he drank the night before. He gelled his hair, trying to make it presentable, and put on a clean shirt with a new pair of jeans. It was his attempt at making a good impression. He probably should have done this the first time he went into Payton’s office. Oh well, he thought. It had taken him all morning to get ready and create a prepared dialogue of how his conversation was going to go with Shannon. She was his only hope in getting some help and she was free.

Taking a deep breath, he marched into the office putting on an overconfident cocky air, as he fidgeted with his old NYPD badge in hand. Thank goodness he still had this. He marched right over to Shannon’s desk with purpose and held out the badge before he got closer to her.

Shannon immediately noticed when he walked into the office. This guy again. Is he ever going to stop coming by? Like she did with every other customer, him no exception, she put on her most welcoming smile. “Good morning.” She raised her eyebrows as if to ask why he was here.

“Shannon, I’m going to be straight with you. New York needs your help in an investigation against your boss.” He held his badge higher, putting it right in her face to make sure she saw it. He hadn’t used his badge since being kicked off the force, it made him nervous. She made him nervous, for whatever dumb reason. He could hardly stand it. Being out of his comfort zone, he immediately started to crave a drink.

He came off as cocky and entitled, which was not what he had hoped for.

“Logan – right?” Shannon pursed her lips together, unable to hid her annoyance. “I assure you whatever you are looking into, Payton is innocent. Now you are going to scare her customers away.” Shannon was up from her desk, taking Logan’s arm to turn him toward the door. “You have to stop coming in here.” She proceeded to walk him out the door. Logan, taken aback by her confidence, let her guide him but only for a moment. As Shannon began to open the door, he used his hand to shut it, using his strength against her. He then proceeded to stand up against her, pushing her back toward the desk, pinning her against it.

“Shannon, you will help me.” His nostrils flared as he tried to keep his breathing in control. He pressed himself against her, holding her in place. He brought the badge up in front of her face again. “See this?” He placed the badge down on her desk. “If you also want to stay out of trouble I will need you to cooperate. I will need you.” He puffed out his chest to show his superiority.

Shannon stared at this stranger. He went from unconfident to this man with extra testosterone who knew what he wanted. As she stared at him, she noticed that he looked tired and overworked. She instantly felt sorry for him.

As their eyes met, he continued. “You’re not going to be difficult are you?”

Shannon gulped and shook her head no. Even though she felt sorry for him, he still scared her a little. She figured she had little option but to help him.

“Good.” He took a step back. “I’ll be in touch.” And turned around and left.
