“So, what do we do now?” Darren asked. “Do we just sit here and wonder what’s going on behind those closed doors? Because I can hear the moans out here, and it’s making me antsy.”

“We’ll finish our drinks, and then we’ll go home.” Matt scowled at his drink. “So I can actually drink something stronger than this.”

“I can get behind that.”

“So can I.” Cedric held up his glass. “Cheers.”

At least they could make the most of this evening. It was still relatively young. Although he wasn’t really looking forward to going back to work and looking Kayla in the eye. Knowing that she knew where they were going, it would be hard to be around her.

Why should you be ashamed? She should be ashamed for turning you and your friends down. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about.

It was going to take a while to knock out the dents in his pride.

He could hear footsteps behind him, but Matt didn’t turn around. He was planning on finishing his drink and getting out of Club Sin before word got around. But then he heard her voice, which had him freezing.

“Excuse me, do you have a phone I can use? Mine’s run out of battery.”

He knew that voice. It was one that had plagued him throughout college. Matt turned on his stool and his eyes landed on the dark-haired woman leaning on the bar, her focus on Theo as he approached her. Her hair was tied back in a simple ponytail, which was dripping down her back. The rain outside must have turned into a torrential downpour, because she was soaked, her raincoat dripping water all over the floor.

It had been over a year since they last laid eyes on each other, but Matt would never forget the woman who had driven him nuts in class.

“Oh, shit.” Darren murmured, making Matt jump. “Is that...?”

“Yep. That’s her.”

It was hard to believe that she was actually here. And alone. Wade must have slackened the leash a little to let his wife go out on her own. Matt felt a stirring of anger in his belly and pushed it to one side. He would not think about the bastard who thought he could possess his woman and isolate her from everyone else.

“Sure, we have a phone.” Theo leaned on the bar, using a charming smile that made his whole face light up. “What do you need?”

“A mechanic. My car’s broken down across the street.”

“Then I’ll do as the lady wishes.” Theo winked and straightened up. “Just make yourself at home here. I’ll be right back.”

Matt didn’t like the way the barman flirted with her. That didn’t sit well with him at all. He couldn’t take his eyes off her as Theo walked away.

“Chantelle?”

Chantelle glanced over, and then did a double-take. Her mouth dropped open and those dark eyes he had spent hours staring into widened. Damn, she was just as gorgeous as he remembered.

“Matt?”

“Hey.” Why did he suddenly feel like a teenager again seeing her walk into the lecture theater for the first time? He cleared his throat and slid off his stool. “It’s been a while.”

“It has.” Chantelle’s eyes travelled up and down his body. “You...you’re looking well.”

God, just her looking at him made his cock hard. Matt had to slowly count back from ten in his head. Chantelle Mallows was the one girl he ended up in knots over. Yet the moment he decided he was brave enough to ask for more than being friends, that had to be ruined by Wade Thurston. That man always got what he wanted.

And he got the woman Matt wanted.

“Chantelle?”

Matt started when he heard Darren’s voice. He had forgotten that he and Cedric were there; just the mere sight of Chantelle had him forgetting everything else. Then Darren stepped around him, giving Chantelle one of those smiles that made all the ladies drop to their knees.

Chantelle gasped, and then she was beaming.

“Darren? You as well?”

“Me as well.” Darren chuckled as he hugged her. “You know Matt never goes anywhere without Cedric and I to make sure he doesn’t get into trouble.”
