“That can’t be right.” She murmured.

“Why not?”

“It just can’t.”

Allison sighed.

“There’s only one way to find out. You need to take a test.”

“But...”

“Come on, Marigold, stop arguing with me on this. The least you can do is rule it out.” Allison squeezed her shoulder. “I’ll go and get you one. You go back to the office and sit down. Preferably away from the pizza. I won’t be long.”

Marigold wanted to argue, but her head was hurting too much. She just wanted this to be over with.

She had better not be pregnant. How was she going to explain that to Darren, Jake and Nathan? How were they going to react?

The thought of what it could be made her nauseous again.

“You doing okay, Jake?”

Jake opened his eyes. Leon was standing in front of him, freshly showered and dressed, his hair still wet and dripping onto his shoulders. He was watching Jake warily. Jake pushed off the wall.

“I’m fine. Why do you ask?”

“Because you’ve been a pain in the ass lately, and it’s really beginning to show.”

Jake frowned.

“Do you normally talk to the other coaches like this?”

“Only when they’re being bastards. And you were never like this before Christmas.” Leon adjusted the hold on his bag over his shoulder. “What changed? Are we that shit or something?”

Jake bit back a wince. He knew he had been lashing out at the team for other things going on, but he hadn’t realized it was noticeable. He hesitated for a little too long, because Leon grunted and started to walk away, shaking his head. Jake sighed. He didn’t need to have the Vikings team against him; it was hard enough to be a coach without having everyone against him. His behavior had been going on for too long.

“Leon.”

Leon turned, still scowling at him. Jake rubbed a hand over his head. Why was it so difficult to swallow his pride?

“Look, it’s...I’m sorry. It’s nothing against you guys. I’ve had no problems with anyone.”

“Then why start scolding us over something minor? You know we can do what you ask.”

“I know.” Jake shoved his hands in his pockets. “My personal life...well, sort of my personal life...is getting complicated. And it’s spilling over. Not acceptable, and I’m sorry.”

Leon regarded him thoughtfully, still frowning.

“How many times have you, CJ and Jackson told us not to do that?”

“I know...”

“Shouldn’t you practice what you preach?”

Jake gritted his teeth.

“You’re not helping, Leon.”
