Leon frowned.

“It’s still possible.”

“Trust me, it isn’t him.” Marigold swallowed. “Ally, what do I do? I don’t know how to tell them.”

“Whoa, what?” Stephen stared. “Them?”

Marigold groaned. She wanted to sink through the floor. Allison shot Stephen a sharp look.

“Don’t, Stephen. Just don’t.”

“What? Of all people, I didn’t expect Marigold to be the one to be pregnant and there are several potential fathers.”

“It’s not several.” Marigold faltered. “Just three.”

That sounded even worse. Stephen’s eyebrows were almost hidden in his hairline, while Leon looked stunned. Allison sighed.

“I’ll explain later. Right now, I want to make sure Marigold gets home.”

“I can drive.” Marigold protested. “I’ve got my car.”

“And, from what I’ve seen, you’ve barely eaten anything. I’m not having you drive when you’re faint.”

“I’m not faint!”

Marigold pushed away, only for the world to tilt and wobble. She could feel her legs buckling, and Leon caught her.

“Take it easy, Marigold. You don’t want to topple onto the floor in your condition.”

“I’m pregnant, not ill.” Marigold held onto Leon as she straightened up. Her legs were feeling weak. “How am I going to say that I’m pregnant? I don’t know how I can do it.”

“Simple. You just say ‘I’m pregnant’ and let them get on with it.”

Allison shook her head.

“Not helpful, Leon.”

“It wasn’t meant to be.” Leon shrugged. “It shouldn’t be difficult to tell someone.”

“That’s when the pregnancy is wanted, Leon.” Stephen pointed out. “From the way Marigold’s behaving, she wasn’t expecting it.”

Marigold didn’t respond. She felt like they were talking to her with her in a fish bowl. She licked her dry lips.

“I...I just want to go home.”

“You need something to eat.” Allison reminded her.

“And I’ll eat when I get home.” Marigold wobbled to her desk and grabbed her bag, shoving the plastic bag with the tests inside before logging out of her computer. “Once I get some sleep, I should be fine.”

Allison didn’t look convinced.

“I don’t like the thought of you driving when you’re like this. You’re white as a sheet.”

Marigold groaned.

“Why does everyone have to hover around me all the time? I’m fine, really.”

“Say that with a bit more conviction, and I might just believe you.” Allison shot back.
