The stink of rotten eggs wasn’t too unusual, either because she was used to it during her time in the Pit, or because Las Vegas in the summer wasn’t all that pleasant. She walked right into it, too consumed with thoughts about Raze and what she was going to do when she went back to the hotel to see him.

Now that the shock was wearing off, she had to admit that this was a bit of a relief. No matter how hard she tried not to fall for the angel, knowing they could never last, she’d only be lying to herself and everyone else if she said she wasn’t already gone over him. What did knowing that she truly was fated to be with him forever do except ease her mind? Unlike Gabe, once she bonded to Raze, he couldn’t leave her. It wasn’t the way paranormal beings were wired. Nothing could change that.

Except not getting the chance to tell Raze that she wanted to be his bonded mate.

Becca didn’t notice the stink of sulfur, or the heat that seemed to slam into her despite the late hour. But the ugly, bumpy, red-skinned fire demon with eyes like shiny marbles and black horns rising high over his spiky hair?

Yeah. No way she could miss that.

She strangled her gasp of terror and surprise when she glanced up and noticed that, somehow, she’d found herself on an empty stretch of road. No one else was around except for her and the demon she would’ve done anything to avoid ever seeing again.

He smiled when he knew he had her attention. Oversized fangs hung over his lips, making it seem more like a snarl, but she knew him. The scent of her fear did more to make him happy than anything else—except perhaps her screams—would.

“Jerroz. I… what are you doing here?”

Demons like Jerroz never left Hell. Even if most of the local humans knew about the factions that ran the City of Sin, they expected the beings to look somewhat human-like. They could deal with things like Raze’s angel wings, a vampire’s fangs, or a fairy’s pointed ears, but a fire demon? No way. Especially since the beings’ laws said that humans weren’t to be harmed, and a sight like this would be pretty damn harmful.

And that was even before Jerroz got his hands on them.

“I’ve been looking for you, Rebecca.” Jerroz reached up, stroking one of the onyx horns jutting out of his mis-shapened brow. “No one leaves the Pit.”

Quick as a snake, he used that same hand to lash out and grab her wrist. Careful to go for the one without the rosary, Jerroz pulled her into him, her flesh sizzling as he tightened his grip on her bare skin. A fire demon, he could control the burn, just like how he incinerated Simon. And while he didn’t light her up, he made sure she hurt.

Though she didn’t want to give him the satisfaction, she couldn’t help it.

Becca screamed.

Jerroz laughed. “Ah, music to my ears, young demoness. I can’t wait to hear it again once I get you back to Hell.”

That was exactly what she was afraid of.

And, as Jerroz transported her away in the blink of an eye, there wasn’t a damn thing she could do to stop him.
