“To give our baby brother the kick in the ass he needs.”

Baby brother. As if Micah wasn’t thousands of years old, just like Raziel and Samael.

Crossing his arms over his chest, he said, “Yeah? Why don’t you try?”

Sam reached out, tapping Micah gently on the cheek. “It’s not like that. Come on, Micah. You gotta know why I’m here.”

“If it’s about Cinder—”

“You know it is. She’s your soulmate, you already told us that she remembers you from before, but where do I find you? Up here moping when you could be twenty floors below, finding out if her fire magic means she can burn your cock a little when she goes down on you.”

Jeez. Give a lifelong virgin like Sam a soulmate who was very open with her sexuality, and the guy went from being a monk to talking about fiery blowjobs. Fighting back the heat rising to his face, he only hoped he didn’t become such a vulgar male after he claimed Cinder.

Then again, considering all of the things he longed to do to her, it was probably inevitable.

He shook his head. “It’s not like that,” he began. “Besides, if she did… that… it would be enough to claim her and I… I—”

Sam held up his hand, cutting his brother off. “I thought Polly would reject me.”

That caught Micah’s attention. “Wait—what?”

“I didn’t tell anyone. Couldn’t.” Despite how he always seemed the most laidback of the three angel princes, Micah knew better than most how much of it was an act to Sam. He just thought it had to do with his former job—though, as Sam continued, he realized he was right. “Who would want to be Death’s soulmate, right? But Polly did. If it was up to me, though, I’d probably still be perched on her old building, watching over her, instead of heading to the bed we share together. You understand what I mean?”

Maybe.

Either Sam was rubbing the fact that he’d already bonded Polly to him in, or he was…

“Are you telling me that I should… what? Cinder knows she’s my soulmate. That doesn’t mean she wants to be stuck with me forever.”

“How do you know?”

Micah opened his mouth. Thought about what he was going to say for a moment. Closed it.

Sam’s dark eyes gleamed. “Exactly. Think about it. Hey, Fate got it right for me and Raze. Maybe Phoenix wasn’t the right one for you forty years ago. But maybe, just maybe, this Cinder is.”

And maybe the middle brother was right.

Only one way to find out—if Micah was brave enough to give it a try.
