“Fuck you, asshole.” I throw my pen at him.

He laughs, dodging it.

He’s always giving me jabs when it comes to my role in the company. I get the jobs. That’s my part. I know what we need. I calculate how long it’ll take to accomplish it. It’s all figured out before submitting a bid and closing the deal. I come back with the details and strategies.

But we are all equal. Cole knows that, but he enjoys fucking with me. It pisses me off.

And that’s twice today.

Enough piss-offs for me. I’m not in the mood.

“I’ll be there.” I pick up the contract. “I just need to drop this off by Sunday.”

“Alright, have a look at it and let me know if you foresee any issues. I’m gonna call the guys, take a hot shower, and mend this face.”

“There’s no fixin’ that face.” I smirk, already flipping through the pages.

“But I can try,” I hear him say as he walks out of the office.

I look down at the contract. Daxon Construction is typed at the top.

We wanted nothing tying us to our father, so we took our mother’s last name. Cole gets his bulk from Mom’s side. Lix, he’s leaner, but he’s only twenty-seven. He’s just starting to fill out. And me, I got a mix of Mom’s side and our sperm donator’s. I got my height from the fucker.

I glare at the screws, metal plates, and dowels scattered on the floor. I usually don’t have a problem following directions, but these instructions for the computer desk have me baffled. Holding the two pieces of wood together, I glance at the instructions.

How am I supposed to screw it in now?

What am I doing wrong?

The apartment GrandMark set me up with was missing one thing. And that thing is frustrating the hell out of me.

I hear a firm knock on the door, and I drop the wood.

My heart misses a beat then takes off like it’s in a long-distance running race.

I know who it is.

I’ve waited all weekend anxiously for his arrival. And, of course, he shows up now.

I get up from the floor and brush the pieces of Styrofoam from my yoga pants. Primping my hair, I push it from my face to behind my ears, take a few breaths and walk to the door, although nothing could prepare me for him.

I pull the door open.

Hit first by his soul-stirring eyes. Next, his invigorating scent. Lastly, my eyes gobble up the arm muscles revealed from his tight T-shirt.

He is delectable in a suit, but damn, he’s even hotter in jeans.

His presence disrupts and ignites everything in me all at the same time.

“Hi.” I smile.

“Hello, Cassie,” he says, and like the rest of my senses, he teases my ears. “I went through the contract. Everything looks fine.” He holds out a manila envelope.

“Great.” I take it. “Come in.”

He hitches his thumb. “I have to get back to—”
